Lightbulb Publicity Help

Hey girls, I am from the Theta Phi chapter at the UAB campus and I was wondering if anyone had any cool ideas for me since I am publicity chair...I need some ideas that would help us get Alpha Xi Delta's name out into the public

These may not be the most creative ideas, but they are what worked for the sororities on my campus. First of all, the best advertisement was letters. This is what caught my eye and got me interested in rush. Seeing groups of girls walking around together with letters definately caught my attention. Also in our campus newspaper, there was a classifides section that included a personals section. All the GLOs would print things. They would vary from things like AXiD #1 in greekweek or AXiD Leslie, you're the best Big, Love Little Mindy . I think you get the gist. Also, we always had sisters on the newspaper staff and that kind of makes sure you always get coverage of your philanthropy events in the paper and also gives the rest of the staff a different perspective on Greeks in general and they do not write nasty coverage of the greek events (this has happened to us before). Ok, that's all I can really think of now. I you have any questions or need me to clarify anything, let me know. Let me know if any of these things will work for your chapter.

Xi Love,
Mindy

Hey girl, thanks so much for the extra tips! They will be a really big help, I never really thought of just taking out ads occasionally in the paper. we were just going to have one big one to welcome all of the new members. thankx so much for the help and everyone else keep your ideas rollin' in...it will be a great help!

Hey! I was publicity chair and am now Public Relations VP, so I'll let you in on a few things we did. We usually have a few small recruitment parties in the fall to get freshman girls interested so they know who we are before Formal Recruitment in the spring. Definetely pick one day a week where all of you wear letters. When I make signs, I make a few big poster board ones that are colorful and very neat, and put them in common places like the door before the cafeteria, in the mail room, by the campus phones in the academic halls. Then I make out many computer run off signs that have cute clip art and are neat looking and hang them all over campus, manly on freshman dorms if it's a rush thing. Just make sure the big and little sigms coordinate. I designed our chapter's website, and it has been really useful. Make sure if you make one you ask your school to put a link to it on the school's webpage. Also, submit it to Nationals and they will provide a link for you as well. Our school has a public access channel, and we can make things to put up on that that everyone will see as they are flipping through the channels. Make sure that it's colorful and eye-catching, but not too wordy. I know you posted this a while ago, but I figure you could still need ideas, or if you aren't doing it anymore the next person will. I hope this helps!!

Kristi thank you so much for the advice. I am running for our PR VP right now and Publicity Chair. I hope I get it. I will try a lot of it. Thanks for everything.

i'm not an alpha xi, but i thought i'd offer up some ideas too. one thing that really caught my eye freshman year was all of the cute little signs the different chapters made for their new members to put on their dorm room doors. the alpha gam (me!) ones were huge squirrels with each girls name on it and the letters. if you have a big dorm system on campus it's a quick, easy way to get your letters out to the girls your actually trying to reach. ie. other freshman/sophomore girls. other than that, our chapter always did the little newspaper announcements too. especially for things like lavaliering, engagement, or even exchange dinners. it might just be me, but i always thought a lot of the chapters who congratulated their sister on an engagement or lavaliering in the paper. ah well, that's my two cents.

Hey,
I'm so glad I found this section! I'm the new publicity chair for the AXiD colony at University of Kentucky, and I'm always looking for new ideas! We've been trying to come up with a new short, catchy slogan -- anyone have one they wouldn't mind sharing?
Xi love,
Erin
PS: We've started the "wear your letters" day, too -- I think it's great!

How about chalking? Depending on where you live, it doesn't work during the winter, and your school may have rules about it. On my campus it was a big thing - chapters would go out in the evening with a bucket full of colored chalk and cover the sidewalks with positive messages.

An idea that we just started using this year is door hangers. We put them up in all the freshman girls door rooms. On the hangers we put information about an informal recruitment event that we had. They were really successful and got our name out on campus more.
