Question MTV Sorority Life

How did you girls who watched that feel about it?

I think they are giving the wrong message to people who are looking at panhellenic sororities ... because they were nothing like them and most non greeks dont know the difference and might mistake the two (what they saw and what we are) ...

Im wondering if you girls think this will help or hurt our fall rush ...

please let me know what you think ... i wanna hear as many people's imput as i can

Much love!

i'm gonna post the same thing i did on the other message board that isn't just sig kaps.

hmmmm. . . .i think the jury's still out on this show. i watched it with 2 of my sisters. there are some positive things about the show, and the sisters. however, i feel that MTV is going to choose to show the "conflicts" and other stereotypical sorority behaviors in order to gain ratings. this can either help the greek system or hinder it. . .we'll just have to see what the producers of MTV have up there sleeves.

on a side note i think that the show should make the difference between a local sorority and a NPC sorority, not because one is better than the other, but just because of the way they are run on a organizational level. we have to answer to nationals and they don't. they can do things that we can't. i know many nationals, and perhaps all of the 26 NPC sororitys wouldn't let their chapters even think about doing a tv show on MTV. i just hope this helps get girls interested in sorority life rather than make them steer clear of the opportunity of a life time!

I think the first episode went ok. But I do agree that the jury is still out, there are more episodes to come. I could see that the actives really care about their sorority and they want it to be strong. As for the new pledges......I'm a little afraid.
The entire rush segment made me cringe. It is nothing like an NPC sorority rush and I sincerely hope PNMs don't think that's how it's going to be b/c they will be in for a big suprise!
I'm upset about the women talking about the girls while the party is going on, the disorganization, and the filming of membership selection.
I think there will be tons of questions before, during, and after recruitment and that we should be prepared for them.

SIDEBAR: I heard that one of the MTV people had a fling with one of the girls on the show - my guess is on Jordan or Candice, anyone else what to take a guess?

The show didn't turn out as bad as I thought it would. It showed some of the positives of sisterhood, and in some ways was pretty accurate...stuff I could see happening in my chapter. However in some ways it was totally off. Guys at recruitment (or as they put it rush) events.....hello! I don't think so! There were several other things that would never ever happen in an npc sorority that made me cringe too. I think this fall gamma chis (or whatever you call them) are going to be doing a lot of explaining on the difference between local and national, and what really happens. I guess we'll have to see what the rest of the series brings before we jump to too many conclusions though (even though I think things will get much more dramatic as the series goes on).

Jess

PS---Has nationals said anything on how we should respond to questions about it?

PSS---I guess this is a question for all of you guys...who was your favorite SAEII sister? Mine was the vice president, the one with the glasses...she seemed like she had her head on straight and I loved how she stood up for what she believed in!!!!

I agree, the vice president (I think her name is leslie?) was my favorite too. She did seem like she has a good head on her shoulders and I hope she proves to be a model sorority member for the rest of the episodes.
