Thong-checking administrator demoted

SAN DIEGO, California (AP) -- A female assistant principal was demoted for lifting girls' skirts to make sure they weren't wearing thongs to a high school dance.

Rita Wilson's thong check April 26 in front of male students and adults had enraged parents, one of whom threatened to sue.

The Rancho Bernardo High School administrator, who has tenure, will be reassigned to a teaching position, the school board decided Monday.

"I'm very disappointed and deeply saddened," Wilson, 47, said as she wiped away tears and hugged supporters.

An investigation by the school district concluded Wilson "went far beyond the grounds of propriety" with the underwear inspection.

Students said Wilson lifted girls' skirts before they entered the dance, and told those wearing thongs to go home and change.

Wilson said she was concerned the combination of revealing clothing and suggestive dancing could lead to sexual assaults.

Yeah...because we all know that wearing underwear that doesn't show a pantyline under clothes mean people are going to be unable to control sexual urges.

I can see why she was doing a CYA move like that. But its just too far. Thongs CAN be considered sexy, but they also have a function. And no HS administrator has a right to do panty checks.

I wonder how many girls she discovered not wearing any panties at all?

Isn't it amazing how far some people in our education system are willing to go in order to enforce policy issues?

Where the hell does a school get off saying what kind of underwear students can wear?!?!

Ugh! That is so disgusting! I would never have let one of my high school administrators look under my skirt!! She was concerned about sexual assaults?? It seems to me she was the one doing the assaulting! Who cares what kind of panties the students were wearing! I'd much rather wear a thong under a slinky dress than bunchy granny panties flashing the VPL (visible panty line) That's none of her business. Shouldn't she be more concerned with the proper education of her students more so than their choice of undergarments??? I think she has a freakish panty fetish.

EVEN IF there was some stupid policy against girls wearing thongs, which I see no reason why there would be a policy against this, that gives this woman NO RIGHT to lift girls' skirts to check if they were wearing a thong! Wouldn't it be pretty hard to enforce this policy without doing what this woman did?! Absolutely lucicrous!!

What's next? Are they going to lift the girls shirts to make sure they are wearing appropriate bras?

Thumbs down

I think demotion is too good for her. Quite frankly, if I was a parent at the school, then I wouldn't want her anywhere near my children -- much less teaching them. She should have been fired.

Nope -- just demoted... Maybe because she has tenure??? IMO, the woman shouldn't be anywhere near kids, tenure or no tenure.

If anyone had tried that with me in high school, they would have pulled back a bloody stump where their hand used to be. What kind of pervert does that???

Regarding AOX's comment about bras...I can't cite the exact instance, but I remember a few years ago reading about a high school girls track relay squad that was stripped of a title because one of the girls wore a hot pink jogbra under her uniform tanktop and the straps were showing. The reason given was that it wasn't a sanctioned uniform.

Agreed. If they can't fire her because she has tenure, she should at lease have been given a position where she has no contact with children. The school district must have an administrative center - maybe she could have been sent there. She should not be teaching - is she going to check her students for thongs every day as they enter the classroom?

Thats nothing.

A teacher at a school in my area pulled a gun on a couple of students a couple of weeks ago. The gun turned out to be a starter pistol but the students didn't know that at the time. The school wasn't even going to do anything but the parents and the press made such a big stink that the school finally suspended the guy with pay. I think he should be fired.

Why did he pull a gun (albeit a starter pistol) on a student?????????
