Sisterhood is...?
I am trying to come up with a "collection" of sorority or sisterhood quotes or sayings to give to my sisters. Things seem very tense and the stress levels are climbing and I think a nice list of great and inspirational type things would be great. I'm sure there has been threads with sisterhood quotes before so sorry about that. Stories are great too! Post anything positive or one of your favorites! Even if things are great for your chapter, this makes an excellent and inexpensive gift.
THANKS!

k, so i'm lazy and didn't look through the other threads, so i'm sure this is there, BUT...
i was given this by the Beta class at our installation banquet, and its all folded up and put in my wallet so that when i need it, i can look at it:
Sisterhood is many things. It's a warm smile on a cold and rainy day, a friendly hug, a cheerful hello... It's all that a good and lasting friendship is, only better. It's treasured. It's sacred. It's knowing that there will always be someone there for you. It's dreams shared, and goals achieved. It's counting on others and being counted on. It is real.

People ask
why
I am in a sorority
and I try to explain all the
things a sorority is
that they cannot see.
A sorority is more than
letters
on a sweatshirt, I say.
More than traditional songs,
a golden pin, rituals,
an obligation, or
a way of life.
A sorority is learning
about people,
A sorority is giving
without expecting a return.
A sorority is earning
respect from others,
as well as for yourself.
A sorority will not solve
all your problems.
But I have made good friends
and found confidence there,
to help me take life
one step
at a time.

Sometime in between moving into the dorm
And begging for an ID,
Somewhere in the middle of an 8 o'clock class,
And watching Friends on our 8 inch TV.
Sometime after the night you forgot,
With the guy you don't remember.
Maybe before the five tests in three days,
Or the party every night in September.
Sometime in the car on the way to Iowa,
For the roadtrip of the year.
After class gets out with that gay TA,
After you finish the last warm beer
Shortly after you figured out,
This newfangled 'e-mail' thing.
And after you stopped dreaming about,
The fun a 21 ID would bring.
Maybe the morning after you pulled the allnighter,
But finally got the paper done,
Or maybe when you can't remember,
The last Sunday night you had fun
Somewhere between the day you met your dorm roomate,
And you were sure you got one of the duds,
And the day 4 years later when she's still your roomate,
And she's one of your best buds.
Definately after you realized how lucky you are,
To have such a great group of friends,
And after you get that sick feeling in you stomach,
Wondering what will happen when it ends.
Maybe on the beach for spring break,
Hot sun, tan bodies, cold beer.
Maybe after you started looking for a job,
And your happy world turned to fear.
Soon after you discovered there's just not enough time,
To do everything you should.
But not before you realized Thanksgiving dinner,
Never tasted so good.
Sometime after the day your parents came to visit,
So you were forced to make your bed.
Or the morning after a tough night at the bars,
And you can't believe the things you said
Sometime after you enjoy the beautiful weather,
Though it means missing a class.
Probably after laughing on Homecomming weekend,
Watching old alumni drunk off their collective ass.
Somewhere between day one and year four,
The best years of your life were spent.
And looking back with a smile and a sigh,
You wonder where those years went.
You try to figure out who made you a victim,
Of the most serious crime,
You offer a reward for any information leading,
To the one who stole the time.
The day is coming closer, and closer,
Until one day it will be your last,
And someone is guilty of doing this to you,
The years have gone way too fast
Sometime when you were too busy to notice,
Happy as a newborn pup,
Someone came along and did the unthinkable.
Somebody grew us up.

sisterhood is...
From the outside looking in you don't understand it. From the inside looking out you can't explain it, but you can't imagine what your life would be like without it.

I'm thinking of going to Alabama for college, so I was looking through the sororities' webpages and found this on the Gamma Phi Beta sight and it reminded me of this post. I think its really cute:
What is a Sorority?
If it is really anything at all,
A sorority is not entirely
A flower,
National conventions
Monogrammed rings
Worn-out rush songs
By-laws
Membership standards
Or a pearl-encrusted pin.
And it is not entirely
An institution
A creed
A legacy
An obligation
Or a way of life.
If you are really going to insist that it is something, a sorority is:
Moving into the house for the first time and slowly learning that all beautiful people have fat legs, use mouthwash and wear last year's shoes.
Sitting next to an alumna you don't particularly like and being nice because you have a common goal and she has been where you are now.
Long, tired hours of black coffee and study hall when you still can't remember the Renaissance architects or the anatomy of a paramecium.
Borrowing a skirt from Betsy and a blouse from Jennifer and shoes from Stephanie and a coat from Cathi and passing it all off as your own.
Sitting on the back steps listening to your pledge sister with helplessness because she's lost and she's lonely and it seems like the whole world just fell into a bunch of ugly little pieces.
Coming home very late one night and closing the door to tell your sister who's seen you through the hardest years of your life that you're happy now and you're getting married.
And a sorority is, I suppose, a kind of evaluation. You grow up inside these elegant halls and perhaps you do learn more of this circus we call life than if you lived somewhere else.
You learn that a football player is sometimes just shoulder pads and that skinny arms sometimes hide a great man.
You learn that some lecture halls are just watery echoes and that there are silent rooms for your deep rivers.
You learn that no matter where you came from, or who brought you here, you still have to find that one small acre that belongs to you on your own.
You learn that the world is made up of people you're not going to like, and you learn to live with them anyway.
You learn to wait because change is slow and change isn't always right.
You learn that there is still a lot left to believe in and a whole lot more to hope for.
You learn that love has never been easy and that it's a long time coming.
And if you're very smart or very lucky, you learn that no matter how big or how messy the world becomes, what is precious and what is enduring will always be the same.
And in the end, a sorority can only be a better way to stumble down the back steps and out the front door.

Wow...all these quotes are great. Reading all this stuff made me realize that I should do something for my sisters for Christmas. I am going to try and make a book for each one with the poems and quotes that I wrote down. I think they would appreciate it a lot
