Unhappy Things Happeneing in the church!

Sorhors and Sisterfriends,

I'm just wondering how all of you feel about the things that are going on in the church now. You know with the stories of the preist molesting children, this was a topic we had here at work so I decided to bring it to greekchat and see what you think about it. How do we as a people react to this and how can we make sure our children are safe? There were already people that thought that people in church were hypocrites and now it comes out that the people we trust the most are hurting our children and this isn't just one isolated case, it seems to be happening more and more now.

Just looking for some thoughts and opinions!

I believe that it is really sad that all this is going in the place of worship. Especially when there are people who are unbelievers and then when something like this happens, it gives them more excuses to throw as far as "why they dont believe in God or the churchs".

Indeed it is sad what has been in the news in both the Catholic church and with the Jehovah Witnesses. I believe in a supreme being, but not organized religion. I can teach my child those principals deemed important to me at home. I think people are shocked and appauled because they put so much faith into other human beings [who are not perfect]. We all make mistakes and have problems [some worst than others], but we need to be mindful of who we put our faith in. Do you worship a higher being, or the pastor?

Not trying to start a debate on religion, just my 22 cents.

Sorhors,

As a strong Christian! The first thing that I was always taught about my faith was to attend a Bible believing church and to not follow man because we all were born into sin. The number one problem with many of our Christian churches is that the people don't read God's word (Study to show thyself approved. . . rightly dividing the word of truth) and many people in Christian churches are following men and not God. I feel that I should assemble myself with other followers of Jesus because He didn't walk around by himself - he befriended, taught (disciples) healed, and feed thousands of people. And if I believe in His word then I will try to obey his commandments and not twist the words that God handed down to people to suit their needs or agenda. Members of any sect of Christianity from the Roman Catholic faith, to the numerous Protestant faiths, to Eastern Orthodoxy need to repent if they are doing wrong and humble themselves and pray and God will take care of those sins. Great topic!

I'm not suprised all of this has been happening. It was really a matter of time before they[priests] got caught on a national level. This stuff has been going on for years and no one said anything for fear of retribution by the Catholic church.

I am not Catholic but was raised in the United Methodist church. After doing some of my own research, I left the UMC, because of some basic principles that they believe and I don't. Like msbrowneyz, I also am not a proponent of organized religion.
I feel it's not necassary to go to church to show off your recent car purchase or fashion accessory (don't act like it doesn't happen out there) or show up to service only on X-mas or Easter, and finally, come to the church just because of who the members are...ie doctors, lawyers, judges, etc...

I'm not trying to hate on the church (no hater-aid for me thank you) but for some reason, organized religion just can't seem to get it together.

The sad thing about all of these happenings is that the children are the ones who lose out in the long run.

Sorhors and Sisterfriends,

Once again, I think that a lot of Christians don't understand why it's important to attend a Bible and Godly centered/grounded church. It's not about the stuff (Cars, clothing, money in your bank account, the house, associations, etc.) we all have because those things are just temporary and we are just stewards to the gifts that God has so graciously blessed us with and as a believer a person is to assemble with other believers because number one heaven (concept of a rewarding afterlife) is suppose to be just like the gathering and fellowship with other believers. If a person can't give God some of their time on earth I really don't think that person will want to do it in when they depart this world. When we focus more of our attention on the doctrines presented by the specific denomination or sect we have totally missed the meaning of God's plan for our lives. A Christian is suppose to grow from his/her experience in the house of God and turn away from sins of the flesh. Now I think that a lot of folks lack a clear understanding about salvation and God's purpose because they don't read His word and they are in these so called churches and sects of Christianity and denominations that totally are not doing it God's way.
