Question Would You Let Your Kids?

I just finished watching Hardball with Keanu Reaves and a bunch of kids and I have a question. This is something that has been on my mind for a while actually.

If your kid was an actor, would you allow him or her to curse in a movie if his or her part called for it?

I was just blown away by how much cursing these kids did in this movie. Yes I know it is acting and the kids in the movie lived in the projects in Chicago but I still don't think I would allow my child a part in a movie that had him or her cursing.

I have also seen Hardball and was shocked at the amount of profanity used by Keanu Reeves' young costars.

This is a difficult question...

On one hand, its acting and kids will learn many of the words regardless of a parent's effort. On the other hand, children who are the age of Baby G (the youngest player) should not be cursing at all.

Hey, funny that you brought this up. I haven't seen Hardball, but my cousin's son is in that movie. My cousin had the same reaction as you when she read the script, but ultimately allowed him to participate. From what I understand, his lines weren't nearly as vulgar as some of the other characters. I don't know if I would allow my child to participate. I do know, however, that my cousin is a teenager and I'm sure that once he's at school around his friends, he's cursing up a storm anyway. He may as well get paid for it.

I guess we wonder why these kids are cursing out teachers, classmates, administrators and parents. I'm talking about elementary kids, not adolescents.

I know I could not say a curse word that were in a song's lyrics (damn) growing up. Silly me, I thought it was okay.

Well in HARDBALL I might have been able to roll with damn but they were on the 3rd tier of curse words.
