Tri Delts at UF
hey everyone!
This summer I will begin attending the University of Florida. I know that I definately want to go through recruitment. Just going on what I have heard from my friends that attend UF Tri-Delt is at the top of my list. I still want to keep an open mind of course, but I know they have a really strong chapter at UF. I want to make a really good impression, so I was going to get a letter of recommendation. Will it look bad if I get letters for more than one sorority and I if anyone knows how the UF chapter handles recommendations that would be nice to know too. Thanks so much

Hello
Hello,
Yes I have heard all those chapters you mentioned are good at UF. I know from Phi Mu Nationals that the Phi Mu Chapter there has really grown and has quality members. I am not sure how they stand currently at UF but they made a recruiment video which all Phi Mu chapters had the oppurtunity to use. It was awesome and very well done! Good Luck!

Here is a list of the other sororities I have heard good things about, Alpha Delta Pi, Kappa Delta, Kappa Alpha Theta, Chi O, Zeta Tau Alpha. If anyone has info about any of these other sororities that would be great too. Thanks so much!!

I don't have any information about sororities other than my own, so I can't help you much there. However, I can tell you that it never hurts to have as many good recs as possible. I don't know how it works at other schools, but at the school I attended, PNM's could have recs for all three sororities, and it was not a negative thing at all. YOU are not the one who sends the recs, your friends/family members are. They of course will recommend you to their sororities, but you never know who's got a friend or family member in another group who just might send a rec (who knew Great-Aunt Sadie's best friend's daughter is a Theta alum who's just dying to write recs?).
This may be an unpopular statement, but I would avoid asking for advice on any of the groups. I believe that is the only way to truly enter Rush with an open mind. What you hear may be one or two people's opinions, and they say nothing about the group with which you will truly click.

I agree with KappaStar...
Please try to go through rush with an open mind. If you read through the rush threads on here you will find that a lot of the time when a lady goes through rush thinking they just have to get into XYZ for whatever reason they are disappointed. However, you will also notice that the ladies that go through without an opinion of any of the organizations often have the best rushes, especially at competitive rush schools like UF.
To answer your question it is not bad to have recs to more than one house. Actually the more the better. A rec is used by the particular organizations to get to know you before you walk through their door. Recs are not mandatory nor do they guarantee that you will be asked to join, but they can be helpful. Also remember that usually actives, no matter if they are from a different chapter, cannot write recs so you will be dependent on alums to write them.
Please consider posting your stories about rush on here when you do go through. Everyone loves to read about them, and may be able to offer you advice as you go along

Hey UFgatorgirl!
Just wanted to wish you luck, from one PNM to another . (I'm going to college this Fall, too!)
Also, I would love to talk to you more if you don't mind! If you'd like to talk, please PM me!

On the same page with everyone else, it is incredibly important that you go in with an open mind and not attempt to pick out certain sororities. I am now a sophomore at UF and when I rushed as a freshman I did the same thing - trying to pin point certain sororities. I was a even a legacy at a house you mentioned, but once I began going through rush I found that some of the houses that I had been told were the "coolest", completely turned me off and became the longest 20 minutes of a conversation in my life. So just remember, there are 15 sororities at UF. That's a huge number! And you never know where you'll meet your best friend.
On another note, I will be a Rho Chi(Recruitment Counselor) this fall for rush and cannot wait to meet all of you guys coming through recruiment. For me it will truly bring back some memories being under the tent again! It'll be an awesome week, so get excited!!!

I am curious about something. UFKappa, how can you be a Rho Chi if you are only a sophmore? I thought that at UF you had to go through Rush on both sides first before you can become a Rho Chi. Or at least so I have been told. Just being nosy!!

Hey UFgatorgirl! Going thru rush will be one of the most memorable times of your life! Enjoy it! Here's the thing! Each sorority only knows the recs that come to them! They don't know who or how many other houses you have recs for! I would start by telling friends, family, parents' friends, teachers, church friends (in short--everybody!) that I am looking forward to rushing this Fall. You will be surprised how many people out there are greek and will offer to recommend you to their group! The thing about recs is...you can never have too many! Some PNMs actually keep a list of who they have recs for and actively seek to get them all!
Also, I agree with everybody else on this thread. You have only mentioned 5 of 15 sororities. If you were in Texas, with that focus, you would be a prime candidate for disappointment! Pleeeeease, get to know the women in every group and form your own opinions. Also, don't forget! Delta Zeta is coming to UF after formal recruitment this fall! An opportunity to shape the formation of a totally new group should be considered! Here's an opportunity to shine from the very beginning!
