Thumbs up New Idea about Colonization

Dear Fraters, I was looking at web sites of our chapters all across the nation, when an Idea came to me.........How to colonize other schools in a more affective manor, and also a more deliberate one......First we target the top fifty large schools in the nation that dont have TKE chapters anymore or have never had one. The majority of these schools are adjacent to smaller schools that have TKE chapters. So the fraters from these smaller schools are contacted by nationals, and then are given a kit much like the new rush kits that IHQ has come up with. These fraters have a meeting and invade that campus and put up flyers and posters all over campus, and leave thier new colonization chairs # on it and eventually set up a colonization meeting with the guys who call about the fraternity. Then they make these guys honorarys at thier own chapter and wholla you have a brand new TKE chapter at a big name college, and it also has a support system to fall back upon at least 30 minutes away. Think about it if USC colonized UCLA, and Central Oklahoma colonized Okie State and Virginia Tech got Virginia, Colorado State did University of Denver, we would grow tremedously really quickly, that is mor national recognition, and also more money in Dues coming in to pay for these schools to immidiatly get houses on there campuses, and plus alot of these schools have had chapters in the past and could try to get there old Alumni involved. Either way it is worth a shot and would cost the IHQ nothing to start, even if it only worked at one University that is one more than before...........This is my list of top fifty schools for Colonization:
Hawaii
UCLA
Fresno State
Cal
Washington State
Idaho State
Wyoming
Utah
Arizona
University of New Mexico
New Mexico Highlands
Colorado
University of Denver
Johnson & Whales Denver
Colorado College
University of Nebraska
U. of Chicago
Iowa
North Dakota State
South Dakota State
Montana
Montana State
Anchorage Alaska
Oklahoma State
U. of Arkansas
Southern Methodist U.
Texas Christian U.
North Texas U.
McNeese St.
U. Texas Austin
Loyola New Orleans
Tulane(My chapter could do these two)
Southern Mississippi
U L Monroe
Ole Miss
Memphis U.
U. of Kentucky
Mississippi State
U. of Auburn
Vanderbilt
U of Miami FL
Duke
Wake Forest
U of North Carolina
Maryland
Virginia
U. of Michigan
UMass
Boston College
Boston U.
Maine U.
Rhode Island U. and all the IVY league schools too.
Im sure thier are more but this is all I could think of. If anyone from IHQ reads this please give it some discussion, and dont just toss it........Blaise

Some of the schools might not be available for colonization. I'm at UC Davis, which other than Sonoma State is closest to Cal, and they had TKE kicked out for about 10 years 5 years ago, but nationals still owns their house. Still, great idea.

Some of those might be wrong, but Hawaii Manoa is the only TKE chapter there. Not Hawaii

What about Emory University? I heard that the Atlanta TKE alum were interested in colonizing there.

About a couple of years ago, I took a summer course near my hometown and found out that my professor was a TKE! He noticed my lavalier. He is working on getting his chapter back up but I dunno if that's happened yet...(Georgia State).

That sounds cool, I was just putting up some of the top schools I know I would like to see a TKE chapter at agian, Also once you get some of those bigger schools it is easier to colonize the smaller ones too. But yah that would be cool to go on to Emory's Campus, My sister almost went there........Blaise

Excellant idea and list of top schools. Many of you should be aware that survey's of all major Universities have been going on for a number of years - I did several when I was on TKE Staff (1984-1990), including Vanderbilt, Tulane, etc.

Personally, I would rather see our current chapters get stronger and see our limited staff visit those chapters having problems rather than spend our limited resources today trying to expand. This is especially true since right now the TKE House Fund is unable to fund any new house loans for a while......

So - let's help each other get stronger, then reach out to new campuses.

Just my personal feelings here, not TKE policy.

Thumbs up Working on it

My chapter is currently working on that with UNO,ULL,LSU,Northwestern,LaTech, and SLU. We are having a giant rush party in New Orleans july 24th........It should be at Main Event in Fat City, but that venue might change........But its to corner the market on rushees from New Orleans......We came up with it cause alot of our friends knew TKEs at some schools and liked them, but didnt know them at others, and had a preconcieved notion of them as dorks, so its alos to get guys to pledge TKE any where. Hopefully it will work......If it doesnt, we didnt pay anything to have it and it was another night of going out and having fun, and maybe it will help the TKEs in our state get closer.........Cause up untill now we havent had this kind of teamwork, it was a broken triangle...........Blaise

PS if you want me to try to start a chapter at Tulane, we know some guys that go there, and are unofiliated?????????

Just do it

I know of no policy or rule that would stop YOUR chapter from doing it at the nearby campus of your choice.

You should probably check with Indpls. in advance - they may already have some cotacts or activity going on at that campus.

If it works, let us know. If it doesn't, let's figure out why not.
