Hello Queencece,
I think you asked a good question. Since there is illegal activity that goes on for bringing in new members. Speaking from my own experience (without getting too detailed) I first knew that the chapter was an active chapter on campus (not suspended etc..)They had activites on campus, where they had to rent space on campus and usually if you are in any trouble with any of the powers that be, you can not do this. Activities also included Informationals, or what some call Teas. Where you learned more about the sorority etc. What I noticed in those who were ghosts etc., was that when it came to offical college functions..they were no where to be found to represent. But at off campus functions..especially parties they were in full form. I would just watch out for chapters that you know are currently suspended. Now I do know that active campus chapters have done some shady things as well, but you just got to use commonsense and keep your eyes and ears open and don't shout out your business. Meaning don't tell everyone and their mommy what you are going to be

Because at that point you have left yourself wide open to be taken advantage of. I had seen a young lady come to my soror's door and cry (tears and all) about how bad she wanted to become a member etc. Now...there was nothing wrong with her expressing her interest, but imagine how we could have taken advantage of her if we were those type of people. So it goes both ways. As a non-greek you can not let the want
of becoming Greek make you lose your mind or who you are as a person, and as a Greek you can not let that go to your head, and misuse people to the point of where you risk them never gaining true membership.
