Drumline movie highlights KKPsi and TBS

A nice little movie in which the GLO's Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma are shown both prominently and in a good light.

I enjoyed seeing my GLO (TBS) on the big screen. It did perhaps give one the impression that TBS and KKPsi were predominently African American groups but this is not the case. Just depends on the school I suppose.

it was shot at a fictional HBCU...so i'm pretty sure the members would be predominantly black at those schools. like at my school (Purdue), i'm almost positive i've never seen kkpsi step anywhere. or at least i haven't seen it.

I saw this movie just a few days ago and really liked it. I didn't see Tau Beta Sigma in it, but I did see Kappa Kappa Psi. Also, the lead actress in the movie was a member of Sigma Phi Alpha, which appears to be a BGLO since they also did stepping at a party. It was nice to see a movie where members of GLO's weren't portrayed as idiots! It was fun!

Some say the movie is loosely based on North Carolina A&T (an HBCU).

So, if that's the case, those who ONLY know TBS and KKPsi at HBCUs...they will have the impression that they are BGLOs.

Thumbs up Two thumbs up

I went and saw this movie with my friends last week. My one friend knows all about HBCUs since she almost went to Grambling, but her roommate had no idea. I had to explain the difference with all the Greek letters and the difference between NIC, NPC, NPHC, NALFO, and all the professional/specific interest groups. I loved the stepping though. Sadly there is not enough stepping here to get my fix like there is in the San Francisco Bay Area. Also, how can people not love Orlando Jones, he can be funny, and dramatic, a wonderful actor.

I think I am going to sit back and watch where this discussion goes too

I saw the movie...loved it. And I am interested in what people thought the movie was about as well.

Side note...
I have said this in the past, I think it is misleading for KKY and TBS to have such vastly different traditions on HBCU campuses versus non HBCU campuses especially since they are in fact a predominately WGLO. That must be a very odd thing to have your non-African American counterpart look at you like you are crazy when you start stepping and doing calls and strolling and...

Thumbs up Drumline (An Educational in the Rough)

I had the oppourtunity to see the Movie "Drumline" being a member of PHI MU ALPHA SINFONIA FRATERNITY, INC.

I went to chill with my frat and my Sorors of Sigma Alpha Iota International Fraternity.

I had a good time... I was Happy to see members of KKY and TBS both Black and White. Of course the white KKY were wearing Red, Black and White. Three colors which I Usually see Phi Mu Alpha Wearing..

Anyway....

It was funny to hear the Brothers of KKY and Sisters of TBS were really sounding off for there organization.

But in my experiance check your YARD ... Your Organizations traditions may also be a spill of things in your province...

That is why I Love Phi Mu Alpha Province 27... there are 2 Black Chapters in all of the Province but there is some precidence that is set by those chapters that is followed by other chapters...

You said it! I was in a predominently white TBS chapter and we did not step or do signs etc etc. Imagine my first trip to district convention. I felt as though we were in two totally different groups. It was kind of awkward.

Thumbs up great movie

I thought this movie was really good. It was much better than I expected it to be.

I have to agree w/ fsu24DZ about the dancing part. I thought that it was going to show a LOT of just the girls shaking this and that and I was very glad that it really focused on the drumming, the band, the main character, etc.

About the Greeks, Laila the girlfriend, was in a fictional sorority (well at least I've never heard of it). I didn't understand exactly what type of sorority it was though. Was it supposed to just be a regular glo or was it like a dance team sorority...I thought there were other members of the team in the sorority too, so that's why I was thinking it was like a dance oriented sorority. I don't know...maybe I missed something. And then I also did not see TBS in the movie but I thought I saw a girl w/ a KKI jacket on. Was that supposed to be another fictional sorority or like Kappa Kourts Inc? I think I saw another fict frat, but I can't remember. I do remember seeing one Omega in the background though.

Anyway, it was a great movie. Oh but wait, the Petey Pablo part....ummmm what the hell was he saying!?? I swear I wished there were captions during that part! lol They could've left him out or at least gotten someone we could've understood!

The movie was great and it was definitely a more positive Greek image than we're used to!

I saw lots of TBS

I was looking for it, of course...

in the back of the football field high on the hill were the letters HUGE

Also, the crest in the band hall behind the group

And lots of girls wearing it on jackets.

our colors aren't blue and yellow so this threw me off at first. But they were definately there.
