Favorite 80s Outfit

What was your favorite outfit to wear in the 80s?

I'm only 21, so in the 80s I was still pretty young. But my fave was black stirrup pants, orange hypercolor shirt (it turned yellow), white socks over my black stirrups, and black tennis shoes.
My other fave was these pants. They were black and white polka dot, and this short black skirt was attached to it. I'd wear it with either this white tshirt that had some colorful design on the front, or my white tshirt with a colorful design and in the middle was, uh huh, Jordan Knight!

In college (1985-1989), I had a pretty unique way of dressing and I remember this being my favorite outfit:

Men's XL turtleneck in black
Stretchy black skirt, cut off just above midthigh, not hemmed
Black ankle boots
White slouch socks
Several pink and green "friendship bracelets" made by my sisters
Zebra-striped Swatch Watch
Big old Jansport backpack covered with messages my friends wrote in magic marker
Black Ray-Bans

And of course the ever popular spiral perm, worn with one side poufed back and the bangs falling over one eye!

Geez, I loved the 80's

The spandex shorts that had the lace attached to the bottom of it with a tied-shirt and I would clip the shirt to the side with one of those shirt-clip things. Of course, I'd do a side ponytail and crimp my hair. Oh...the horror...

I remember watching the Nickelodeon show "Clarissa Explains It All", and loving her clothes. One of my favorites that I copied from her was blue spandex pants with black pokadots, and jean shorts or black biker shorts over them. And, I was also a fan of the Hypercolor shirts, the side ponytails, the slouch socks, high top sneakers, slap bracelets, charm necklaces, bangle bracelets, big earrings, and ANYTHING with New Kids on the Block. I swear, I could dress myself for a whole month without repeating with my NKOTB tshirts, hats, pjs, and buttons.

Ahh-the 80's-I was in college too.

I remember the blouses with the long nettie belts withe the fringe ends that you would wrap around your waist in a variety of different colors. My favorite colors were the light green and blue. I also remember the scarfs in the hair.

My cherokee jeans, London riders and those pants called Dickies (I think I had them in 10 different colors).

One of my favorite outfits was the sailor look----the striped tops with the sailor collars and buttons down the front, with Dickie pants, knee-high stockings and black flats.

For much of the '80s, I attended a Catholic school, so fashion wasn't exactly an issue. Let's see... I could wear a pinafore, or a pinafore. (For the record, pinafores are not comfortable when they're made out of wool, it's 90 degrees out, and your school's air conditioning system consists of opening a window and praying for a cool breeze. )

When I got to middle school (which was *not* a Catholic school, hence no uniforms ) the "in" thing was oversized sweatshirts, leggings, Keds, and, of course, the Swatch, with the obligatory Swatch guard.

By the time I was in high school, it was almost the '90s... geez, I'm dating myself

You might be an 80's child if...
***************************************
Snap bracelets were always getting you in trouble at school.

You played with "My Little Ponies".

Friendship bracelets were ties that couldn't be broken.

You ever read Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Babysitters Club, or Sweet Valley High.

You know all the words to "Ice Ice Baby".

You wanted to be The Hulk for Halloween.

You wanted to be on Star Search.

You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before he had plastic surgery.

You had a crush on one of the New Kids on the Block.

You wore a banana clip or one of those slap-on wrist bands at some point... or heaven forbid one of those t-shirt rings on one side, during your youth.

You were styling with your french rolled pants.

You wore multiple pairs of socks in the middle of the summer just so you could be "hip"

You had slouch socks and puff painted your own shirt at least once.

You owned a doll with 'Xavier Roberts' signed on it's butt. (Cabbage Patch Kids!!)

You knew what Willis was "talkin' 'bout."

You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, Wax off."

You were upset when She-ra, Princess of Power, and He-Man got cancelled.

You can remember watching Full House and Saved by the Bell for endless hours, back when they were new episodes.

You have seen at least 10 episodes of Fraggle Rock.

You hold a special place in your heart for "Back to the Future."

You know where to go if you "wanna go where everybody knows your name."

You wanted to be a Goonie. ("Goonies never say die.")

You remember Madonna in her cone stage.

You knew "The Artist" when he was humbly called "Prince."

You even wore flourescent-neon if you will-clothing...

You could breakdance, or wished you could.

You remember when ATARI was a state of the art video game system.

You remember M.C. Hammer.

You can still sing the rap to "Fresh Prince of Bel Air".

You own any cassettes.

You owned Keds, L.A. Gear, or Converse tennis shoes.

You carried your lunch to school in a Gremlins or an ET lunchbox.

You have ever pondered why Smurfette was the ONLY female smurf.

My Little Pony, Gummy Bears, Transformers, PinWheel with Molly the Mole.

Double Dare, Jem, and Zoobilee Zoo are familiar to you.

You ever had a Swatch Watch.

You actually spent countless hours trying to perfect the "Care Bear stare".

You had Wonder Woman or Superman underoos.

You believed that "By the power of Greyskull, you HAD the power!"

You thought that Transformers were more than meets the eye.

You spent hours in the basement building and re-building Lego cities.

Big wheels and bicycles with streamers were the way to go.

With your pink portable tape player, you sang back up to Debbie Gibson.

"Party like it's 1999" seemed SO far away!!

I must have really been a child of the 80s I remember everythin on that list....

Let's see my favorite outfit, I had a few....

Pretty much anything Limited (remember Outback Red and Forenza) or Limited Express:

Express shorts (the ones where the top folded over
Express White w/ Black Polka Dots strapless Dress
The outfit that was Turquoise with blue polka dots (skirt and shirt) from one of the two stores (Sam wore it on Who's The Boss)

My all time favorite (from the Limited) was an off white mini skirt with a black short sleeved mock turtleneck and either a red scarf or a black wide leather belt

I also had the JimmyZ black and neon pink dress (kinda spanish looking) the top was black spandex and the skirt was neon pink parachute material in layers (only had the guts to wear it once though...)

I used to wear a navu Esprit outfit and loved it. I got it for my birthday when I was in the 4th grade. It was a green shirt with ESPRIT written in colored letters across the pocket and a navy skirt with greek stripes at the top.

I was all about Esprit and Guess jeans.

I bought a black fitted t-shirt a year ago on sale and it says Esprit on it and I love wearing it now. I get alot of "wasn't that popular 15 years ago," but I just think its cute and comfy.

Tom,

That's because in the 80's people actually dressed so you could see their bodies - a happy medium between the choices today - baggy jeans falling off your behind or, well, slut-wear.
