Greek Rivalry
I don't know anything about the schools that you people out there go to (wether they are big/small or really into Greek Life/not into Greek Life)but I was wondering if the rivalry (if any) between Frats and Sororities on other campuses were bad? I attend a school with a smaller Greek system (3 sororities NPC; 5 fraternities IFC). Outside of school based competitions (like Greek Week, Homecoming, ect) is there any hard core rivalries between chapters?

Fortunately at my school we don't have any of these "hard core rivalries". Unfortunately for some chapters, rivalry is something of a 'flavor of the week' concept. In other words, whoever gives us an excuse not to like them will be our current worst enemy.
My chapter is fortunate enough to be in everyone's good graces as far as I know though

On my campus their we're a couple of rivalries. I wouldnt necessarily say they are hard core, cuz no one goes instigating stuff.
Beta and ADPhi
Beta and Chi Psi
SAE and FIJI (big fight between them my soph. Had 6 police cars outside SAE's house)
Theta Chi and Theta Xi
Theta and Kappa
AGD and AXO (back in the day..mid 90's)
AGD and Gamma Phi (current)
PIKE and EVERY fraternity
Im sure there might be more too.

At my campus, at least back when I was there, the only serious rivalry was Fiji and ZBT. Their houses were right next door, and if they weren't pissing each other off, the Sigma Chis, who lived across the street, were instigating something (TP the Fijis and blame the Zebes!).
The other rivalries were very casual or friendly - Phi Psi and Phi Kap because people mixed up their names, for example.

The big rivalries among sororities on my campus when I was there were between Delta Zeta, Chi Omega and Delta Delta Delta. The DZ/Chi-O rivalry was good natured; fighting for a lot of the same pledges or to win Greek Week events, etc. The DZ/DDD rivalry wasn't so friendly, most of the girls in the two houses couldn't stand one another and our Greek Week rivalry (especially for Greek Sing) was always pushed up a notch when we were competing with them. I thought they were really cool, though (I got invited to prefs there) and am still friends with some of them years later.

I go to a large school with a large greek system...there aren't really any stand out rivalries between houses that I know of, but our Greek System as a whole is very competitive. None of the fraternities really like each other and all the sororities can be very catty toward each other. It sucks - you never hear of houses supporting each other or one house try to help make another better. Unfortunate, really.

Elon has a pretty healthy greek rivalry. Most of the time its over new members, greek week, and homecoming events. The sororities get along ok. ZTA, Tri-Sigma, and Phi Mu compete alot. While AZD, AOTT, and Sigma Kappa watch and laugh together. The worse rivalries are definetly the frats! Sigma Chi and Lambda Chi get in fights over things that happened like 10 years ago!

I think the rivalries have actually died down since I joined three years ago. However, Greek Week has a way of reminding people and most people get OVERLY competetive!

My school is extremely small and rivalries are FIERCE. We rival one other sorority, which shall remain nameless, and basically it's a war of words. The same thing is going on with two other fraternities right now, and it is even worse I think because it gets physical. Sadly, this fraternity rivalry has split my sorority in two over who supports who. Their rivalry has hurt OUR unity. THe people I go to school with have been extremely immature this year (worse than high school kids) and it has been a factor in why I'm transferring.

When we were local sororities, the rivalries were really bad. Now that we're national, people are really trying to help each other out but sometimes old habits die hard.

Rivs suck! LXA and SPE had knock downs and SX stole the Original Composit!
The first: the police were there many times since we are across the street on the main drag!
The Second: I e-m both teh Chapter and the International stating I wanted the Composite Back!
What it boils down to, that this Childish bull shit almost cost ALL of the Fraternitys to be kicked off of Campus as IS A PENCILE NECK ADM> they are not going to put up with it!
Listen and Learn! We are to be the Cream of the Crop until we fertilize the Crop and then it hits the fan!
Great to have rivalrys but dont take to far!
We get enuff bad press as is! No matter How Much Good We Do, They Dont Remember That!

I know at my Hunny's school , his fraternity didn't get along with the Kappa Sigs-I remember once, during the summer, when we were all hanging out at the house, the Kappa Sigs came over, with drunk hs kids, and started trashing the chapter room and fighting with the guys. The cops came, rounded up the Kappa Sigs-and their drunk, underage, hs kids-and left.

At my old school, the KD's did not like us for some reason.....every formal rush they try to bring up rush infractions on us......I still dont get the rivialy (SP BAD!) or where its origin was, but I think its mostly because we are the top 2 sororities on campus......Theta Chi and Lambda Chi Alpha Delta Sigma Phi and Theta Chi and Delta Sigma Phi and the basketball team

We have a different rival every week it seems. We did have a big bruhah with one of the locals, and their sisters came over, broke in our house, stole our founders composite and threw dog poop on the floor of our kitchen. So, we scooped up the poop, threw it in their living room and took our composite back. Unfortunately, it's apparently fun to steal letters off each other's houses. I can't tell you the number of times we were only Phi E or Delta Phi. One time DKE stole our Delta, so we went to their house, took their Delta off their house, and hung it in place of ours. Isn't it funny that ours showed up 2 days later, hanging on the house where their Delta was

For grades- it was always Delta Gamma- for the girls during rush- AOPi.
It was not a big deal (the rivalry) - those were the two that we just were always competing with.
