Orientaion Ideas

NPC wants us to do some sort of presentation at the Freshamn Orientations that will be held at my school during the summer so that Greek Life can be more exposed to the incoming students. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or previous experience with this? I particullarly need ideas because the school I attend is a comuter school with very low student activity turn out. I really don't want to do 'just a skit', I want to make this fun and a unique experience for all of the incoming freshman and since it is a voluntary activity of orientation in the past our turn out has not been to good. HELP!

Doesn't PHC disallow any kind of pre-rushing?

Well if they don't...

Go all out! Get your girls to do those campus orientation tours and WEAR THEIR XO TSHIRTS!

Help with moving into the dorms (if you have any dorms)...

Otherwise being at a commuter school is a pain in the butt. Our school is about 1/2 commuter and it's frustrating because students here are SOOOO unaware of any of the issues facing the student body.

If it's just a skit/speech, I'd be more for a serious presentation. You may want to do something that addresses some of the negative stereotypes of sorority women. Get some of your more charismatic, down-to earth girls to speak and just show these incoming freshman that they can join a sorority and still be themselves.

I know with fraternities that's probably your #1 fear for the uninformed students.

Good luck!

My campus is also a commuter school. In the past we have had a table in the lobby of our UC (University Center). At this table we have pamphlets, applications, shirts, greek life memorabilia, and a interest list, which Potential New Members can sign up to get more info. This year we are going to have a photo album with pictures from all of the sororities on campus as well as Recruitment Counselor photos. Our Recruitment Counselors are required to work the orientations, they wear their Recruitment Counselor t-shirts and also hand out flyers to women. Last year our advisor did a session with other organizations on campus called "Getting Involved" and they did a slide show as well as talked about Greek Life. Last year we had about 200 women who were interested in going through Recruitment. That was the largest number of women that have been interested in greek life. Another thing that we do is Freshman Move-In. Fraternity men and sorority women come out and help students move into the resident halls. After the day is over, Greek Life holds a BBQ to kick off the start of school. Everyone wears a GO GREEK shirt and can wear one item, such as, a ribbon, hat, etc. with their letters on it. I hope this helps you. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
