Corny, I know, but I'm wondering...

I know this is far in the future (not until the end of August), but is anyone else here going to be on the other side of Fall Formal Recruitment for the first time as a sister this year??? If so, are you excited? I can't wait! I'm kinda nervous though, except not nearly as nervous as I was when I went through as a "rushee".

I just got initiated last weekend into my sorority and I am soooo excited for fall rush! I am on the rush committee and can't wait to meet potential new members. We're a new sorority that just started last year so everyone is real excited about rush. We have 16 members now and can't wait to expand!

The other side of rush is much better than going through as a PNM, in my opinion!!

At my school, we had to sit out in front of the houses, and in Central Florida, August is HOT and HUMID! Not only is it hot, but we had to sing these songs over and over and over, until the sorority would let us in the house. It gets old!! Really fast!!

Don't be nervous about being on the other side. It's lots of hard work, but think about how nervous you were the year before. It's honestly a great bonding time for the sisters!!

Me too, SigKapQueen! My little will be spoiled *rotten*! I have bought so much lil sis stuff already & got really creative with it (painting wooden boxes, etc). I'm also excited to see if anyone who is graduating from my high school alma mater this year is going through rush. There are tons of people from my HS who go to this university already because it's only an hour away. I think it will also be interesting to hear the questions some of the PNMs ask... especially if they're really dumb questions like the one this PNM asked my sister once, "Will I get kicked out of a sorority if I get pregnant?" have heard some pretty crazy stories from previous rushes, but those are in the "weird rush stories" thread. Anyhow, our chapter is really trying to focus on the "quality vs. quantity" thing right now, even though it would be nice if we got a new member class as large as mine was last semester (34 girls).

Cool

I am very excited about rush for next year. I just initiate this winter into Pi Beta Phi, and I know how nervous and excited I was to be rushing and pledging. I can't wait to meet the new girls and I hope they will enjoy it as much as I did.

Pi Phi Love and Mine,

Emily

I have never worn the same "recruitment hat."

Year 1: PNM
Year 2: Sister
Year 3: Rho Chi
This Coming Year: Alum

So far I like being a Rho Chi best, but I think I prefered being on the PNM side to being on the Sister side.

OK, I guess I'll have to be the wet blanket on here, but I much preferred being a PNM to being "on the other side" during recruitment. Recruitment Week was such a pain in the arse around my house, as there were ninety of us crammed into a house built to hold 40, and everyone had to stay there the entire week. We weren't allowed to stay anywhere else, and we could only go out during approved hours, which hardly anyone ever did because we were always working late into the evening on our skits, songs, etc. Everyone was sick from being packed in so close together and from getting so little sleep. I guess it paid off, but come on...there's got to be a better way to do this!

We won't have that problem with having to stay somewhere all night since all we have right now are chapter rooms, but it's still not going to be fun for nearly 70 of us sisters plus however many PNMS at a time to be crammed into a room the size of a living room. I know as a PNM it was horrible for nearly 300 of us to be crammed into the dorm lobby in 20-some different Rho Chi groups. Other than that I'm still excited, because our chapter nearly doubled last semester with my pledge class, we got 4 new members in Spring rush, and hopefully in the fall we will get a class big enough to surpass or push towards the 100 member mark. Oddly enough, we're the 2nd smallest NPC group on campus! The largest one right now has around 120 or so members. It will be awesome if we get lots of new girls (which I sure we will), but I really hope we do well on the "quality" aspect as well---girls who are really enthusiastic and who will be really active in the chapter.

I too will be "on the other side" during rush this coming fall and I CAN"T WAIT !!!!! we don't really have the whole space issue as my campus is NOT very pro- greek each NPC...(only three of them) has only at the most 40 people. There are usually about I"d say 200 girls that come to upen house then the numbers keep going down through out the week at the parties and such I noticed while I was rushing. It is still a lot of fun though... we're really hoping to get some good quality girls, and LOTS of them !! Answering questions should be great to because I LOVE PHI SIG and there's nothing better than getting to talk about it and share that excitement with someone else.

I'll be going thru formal rush for the first time EVER - I joined Kappa during informal rush last spring, and then did study abroad in London last fall so I missed rush then, and wasn't very involved with informal rush this spring (I was working on a show and had rehearsals every night...) so I'm a little intimidated...

I think I'll be OK talking to random people, we had a rush workshop last week about appropriate topics and stuff... and I'm excited about the week of Pre-Rush 'cuz I've heard that sisterhood is really strong that week, and fun stuff goes on.

Rush is so important to us this year, since a lot of sisters will be graduating a year from now - so we have to find some awesome, active, involved new sisters. I'm excited, but also pretty nervous!

We have a recruitment workshop once a month over the summer, and then Rush Retreat two weeks before classes begin. I'm not sure where the retreat is, but it's 3 days long & it seems like it will be a blast! I'm saving up for a digital camera this summer (amongst other things), so I will have to take *tons* of pictures. I'm already a picture fiend & I even have a website where I've posted all the pictures I've taken since I joined ZTA last fall.

Our recruitment this year begins after the first week of classes on August 25th, which is really early compared to last year (September 6th). Usually it's after fraternity rush, but this time we get to have it before theirs. Greek Week is August 20th-23rd. I'm so excited I could hop & up down LOL

I am so excited for Forma Recruitment!! I have never been through either side (I was a COB 2 days after formal ended my freshman year). We had an all day workshop this weekend and even though it was really long, it got us really pumped up, and everyone learned so much from the older members. Work Week/Sprirt Week is going to be an lot of hard work (and of course so much singing!) but I'm really looking forward to coming back and diving in!! I heard we have more women than ever going through this next year, so the parties are supposed to be HUGE!

After reading that, I remembered the image I had in my head of what formal rush was supposed to be like before I went through it. Because everyone talked about "parties" I imagined going to different rooms & people actually hanging out as if it was a party. LOL I was so clueless until I came to GC.

We are anticipating a really small number of PNM's going thru Rush, which is a bummer - it's going to mean that we'll have to rush HARD to get girls. I'm considering it a personal challenge.

I was talking to one of my sisters who joined in the fall, and she said that at the beginning of Rush Kappa was her LAST choice. Apparantly the girls she talked to during Rush were pretty boring. Eeeeek! So after I told her that was glad she ended up coming to Kappa anyways, I decided that I would be a strong rusher for my beloved house.
