sexual harassment charges against IFC group

Here's an excerpt from the MTSU student newspaper, "Sidelines"... The actual GLO names are withheld b/c I don't want to upset anyone if it is his or her GLO. I'm just wondering what all of you think about this:

XYZ faces complaints of sexual harassment

Complaints of sexual harassment have been filed against MTSU's chapter of _______________. A Wednesday night Channel 4 news report stated that four women had filed charges against the fraternity. Dean of STudent Life David Hays said charges had been filed with Student Affairs but could not confirm the number of charges.
According to the Channel 4 report and two sources who wish to remain anonymous, the events leading to the complaints occurred Wednesday night at an XYZ social event, held during their annual celebration. During _____, individuals are "roasted," but sources say this year's party got out of hand.
A non-XYZ fraternity member who wished to be anonymous said several sorority women, most of whom are in ABC, left the fraternity house crying Wednesday night after XYZ members voiced detailed descriptions of their past sexual practices with some of the brothers.
"We became aware of the situation early [last] week and initated an investigation on our own," Hays said. The university learned of the party's events, he said, through word-of mouth. "Typically what we do is talk to potential witnesses as we can get to them," he said. "At this point, all we have is allegations."

[some parts ommited b/c they just list the names of the university staff who are investigating the allegations]

Hays said the whole fraternity is under investigation, not just individuals, for charges including sexual hrassment and alcohol consumption, which is illegal on campus. The Inter-Fraternity Council has already begun an investigation when the university apporached them and asked them to postpone it, according to the IFC executive council.
According to an official statement issued by executive council, "The Inter-Fraternity Council will conduct an investigation following the university's investigation."
The statement said that, if the allegations are found to be true, IFC punishment for XYZ could "range from formal apologies to a recommendation that the university recognition of the fraternity be withdrawn and their charter revoked by their national office."
One woman who wishes to remain unidentified claims XYZ has a repuptation for inappropriate sexual behavior. She said she went to a social gathering at the XYZ house April 12 and, upon not seeing any of her fellow sorority sisters there, decided to leave the party.
Five men of varying classifications, who she said she recognized when she entered the house as being XYZ members, were gathered around the exit as she tried to leave. One of them blocked her from going out the door and asked her where she was going, she said.
The woman said she told him she didn't see anyone she knew, and that she was leaving. Upon those words, one of the men picked her up, slung her over his shoulder, and spun her around, she said. The remaining four men groped her backside each time she passed them as she spun, she said.
After asking repeatedly to be put down, she said she was let go and one of them yelled at her, "Fine, b*tch, don't come back to our house anymore."
The woman said the men were drinking alcohol. She said she did not file a complaint because she felt that her situation was "not a big deal".
Now, after the allegations filed recently, she said she is concerned about XYZ's pattern of behavior. She said it's a common joke on campus that that XYZ stands for " (a sexual name that goes along with their letters)," and that they have a t-shirt that says "Make your mama proud. Sleep with an XYZ."
Hays said he hopes the comittie can complete their investigation soon. "The longer something like this drags out, the longer the rumor mill gets to crank," he said.

Side note: Now that I think about it, I remember XYZ coming into our chapter room to talk about participation in their XYZ days and they mentioned that on the second or third day of that week, we (sorority women) can get points for the week by doing "favors" for XYZ men. Makes me wonder now... As I recall for the first day of that week, we were supposed to go up to the XYZs on campus (who were supposed to be wearing their letters that day) to get points for our sorority, and none of my sisters saw any of them on campus that day which made some of my sisters think that they wanted us to go to the house to get those points. I actually didn't participate in those days, and most of my sisters didn't either because it was the week of All-Sing.

Thumbs down

Fraternity Men?

Sound like a bunch of kids that wear letters!

Totally uncalled for and I say OFF WITH THEIR HEADS! THEY DESEARVE WHAT THEY GET!

I am totally underwhelmed by their Immaturaty!

If they do not get booted, then the Soroitys should boycot them!
That would be the kiss of death!

I totally agree with Tom, these guys are nothing but assholes parading in greek letters, NOT fraternity brothers! That makes me sooooo annoyed, these people are perfect targets for the press to focus on and perpetuate stereotypes.

If this is a Delt chapter, send me a message.

This isn't something that should be tolerated.

Part of the pride in being a fraternity man is that we try, or at least used to try to be gentlemen.

There is no excuse for this. It isn't cool.

This chapter has managed to degrade itself worse than the women it has harrassed.

I just can't tell you how angry this makes me.
