New Alumna

Hello Girls,

Just wanted to let you know that as of 6:45 last night I am officially an alum. I thought I would be super excited (I've had some major trauma with the chapter this last year) but I'm actually kind of sad. I have been getting totally stressed out as graduation nears, it seems almost like I've lost track of 4 years and suddenly they're gone. Are there any other soon-to-be-graduates out there who are feeling this too?

Love
Jen

Congratulations on becoming an alum (and to everyone else who may also be an alum soon)!

I know it's kind of sad at first but it gets easier. Kind of like graduating from high school, sad at first, but then you move on to bigger and better things and forget about it. I was a little "burned out" from AGD when I graduated, but am happy to be back and trying to be an active alum. Being active as an alum is so much better in many ways, but of course there's some downsides. There's a lot less pressure and you'll have more of an opportunity to meet women from different chapters and hear stories from other women.

Congratulations again and hope you'll be able to join us at some future Junior Circle events here in Birmingham!

Congratulations Jen! I was a little bummed about becoming alum too, but everyone here really lifted my spirits when I was down. You know we're always here for you!

Jenifer, Congratulations to you!!!! It is sad to leave at first, but remember when one door closes another one opens. I know that sounds cliche (sp.?) but it is definately true. Stay in contact with friends and sisters to find out what your chapter is doing. Also, come to Bham Jr. Circle stuff. Anyway, congrats and best wishes. Lisa

I officially go alum next weekend, but this past weekend at IRD the alumnae club held thier induction and rededication ceremony for those going alum. It was really nice.

I have some mixed emotions. AGD has meant so much to me and I have learned so much about myself, but I am probably going through something like you. I mean, I am 22 and I am moving on in my life. I feel like it is time, you know? I mean I will miss it and I will miss my sisters, but I also think that this is right. I do not plan on dissappearing or anything, I plan on keeping in touch. I also hope to return for events on a regular basis.

I will miss my experiences as an undergrad, but I look forward to my life as an alum. I want to continue to strive towards the ideals our purpose sets forth.

I guess in the end, it is like everything else, I am sad to see that I am moving on in life, but I know it is the natural progression in life. It isn't easy, though, I can surely relate.

Sarah

That is so true!

Congratulations Jen! Yes, it is sad but as you grow you can pick new ways to become involved. Just remember how much it means to you and give back in any way you can!

Thumbs up

Congratulations, Jen, Leslie, Sarah...and all the sisters who have recently entered/will enter our Alumnae circle!

Lisa said it best about another door opening. That is 100% true. The feeling is bittersweet, but my hope for you ladies is that you keep on doing great things for our Fraternity! I never dreamed that I'd be working so close to many wonderful alumnae women this early in my alumna status! With each minute I spend with an alumna, I swear....I learn new things. I've gotten to know a lot of the alums better, and I'm very thankful for that.

The fun doesn't stop at Senior Rededication! I hope that you all take this time to re-affirm your pledge and dedication to Alpha Gamma Delta and use that to do wonderful things for yourself, your community, and for Alpha Gamma Delta.

Good luck to you all!

Lisa's post reminded me of one of my favorite quote, so I wanted to share:

When one door of happiness closes,
another opens;
but often we look so long
at the closed door
that we do not see the one
that has been opened for us.

Helen Keller

Now if I could only follow this advice in my everyday life...

Congratulations, ladies! It is hard to adjust to life as an alumna, but for me, Alpha Gamma Delta has meant even more... you really are "Always an Alpha Gam"! Your collegiate days will always be fond memories... and your alumnae days are just starting. Think of all of the great things yet to come!

Good luck to you all!
