Smile convention

I was just wondering if any other Kappa's from TX are going to convention. This will be the first and only convention I will probably ever go to so I am hoping to make the most of it. I go to UNT and there are only 4 of us going.

Convention

I am going to convention but I am not a TX Kappa. I am from Georgia Southern University. That is great that ya'll are bringing 4 from your chapter! We are only bringing 2. We can't afford to bring anymore! We are in the process of building our house right now! I met a TX Kappa at Southeastern panhellenic conference a couple of weeks ago. She went to TAMU. Very nice girl! Anyway-See ya at convention!

PS....What do ya'll think of the Alumni Initiate proposal?? I would love to hear some feedback!

Houses

We are just about to start building houses. Does anyone have live-in houses? Ours is supposed to have like 20 girls live in it, but I am worried that no one will want to. How do you make girls live there? Make it mandatory for incoming?

Live in Rule

most of our girls have been biting at the chance to move in to the new house, but there are always those juniors and seniors who don't want to give up there own bathroom and bedroom! We have a live in rule: Officers get first pick for the house, with President, Vice president of Standards, VPO, Marshal, House, and Treasurer MANDATORY to live there. From there it goes to the point system: based on how long you have been in school and how many semesters you have been a Kappa being the criteria. We have 15 spots for girls to live in the house. They just put the columns(spelling?) up on the top porch today and the inside is all painted! It is going to be done in a month!! We all can't wait. It is our first Rush in the house! We have been the only sorority on campus without a house for 4 years this rush! FINALLY we are like everyone else!! It feels so good to finally have a home of our own!!

The officer live in rule is a good one, your right about old people though..I share a house with 3 girls, and I could not give up my huge bedroom and bathroom. None of our sororities have houses yet, just frats. We are all stationed with chapter rooms in this one university building. It is really nice that we all get to build at the same time. they start this summer and by next years rush they will be done. they are the same floor plan and structure with different style and design. The university is paying for building them too, which is awesome. I bet having a house will definately make a difference in yalls rush, especially with it being the newest one. and kappa is so classy and wonderful anyway!

House

WoW!! the university is paying for them??!! That is awesome!! I am soooo happy for ya'll. It will make such a difference in your sisterhood! We are already closer in our chapter because of it. They are starting on the parking lot and walkway to the front door this week. It is just gorgeous! We really APPRECIATE it, ya know, for being the only ones without a house for so long. I can't wait to bring pics to convention! We are having a Grand Opening this fall on August 24th to celebrate! I wish every Kappa chapter could come and celebrate with us! This is the Kappa house to be built since 1981! Are ya'll going to have a meal plan with your house? Tht helps with the sisterhood as well. If you ever have any questions...Post them! I love talking about anything Kappa!!

Congratulations on the Georgia Southern House! I am also going to convention from South Carolina, and I am the House Board President for the Epsilon Kappa chapter. We just found out yesterday that our housing proposal was approved. We will be breaking ground later this year for occupation next August!!! The chapter women are so excited!

I can't wait to see the picture of the Georgia Southern house!! Julz, are you going to be there personally? Please send me an email if you have a moment. Do you have pictures you can email me?

L,
Martha

Smile Living in the House!!!

We have the opposite problem with our house - everyone wants to live here!!! We have room for about 50 sisters, and there were some dissappointed girls this semester when leases for the fall came out - some girls wanted to live here but didn't have the priority. We're so crowded that the pres almost didn't get a single room - she ended up getting one, but I think she's the only one. Also there are more triples for next year than there normally are. It's gonna be a crazy crowded house next year!

I love living in the house, personally, because it makes you so involved in the chapter. There's always someone knocking on the door, going to the IM softball game or to TCBY or whatever. I love living with my sisters, and wouldn't give it up for anything.

Also, rent is really cheap and I'm only 10 minutes away from my classes - I don't have to deal with finding a place to park or any of that, just roll out of bed and go. Good times.

Go here to see a picture of my beautiful house!

Oh yeah, and my room is on the third floor, it's the very center window... so I can look out and see who's coming up the walk!

KerriMarie-
Your house is very similar to the KKG house at my alma mater, USC-- http://www.usc.edu/dept/ifc/frat/kappakappagamma.html

Wow, 50 girls.. We only have 80 girls in our entire chapter! I think our house will end up looking a lot like a fraternity house, because the guy that is building them all is the same guy that built all the fraternity ones. the pictures of yalls houses were all pretty and girly. I can't wait though. I actually will be graduated when they finish. See you at convention!

House

I am Kappa alum, I lived in our house for 2 years, we occaisonally had problems filling the house, but it was kind of a unique situation. I learned more about people in those 2 years than I would in any other living situation. There were the ups and downs that you have in any housing, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. My first year in the house I was house chair.

I wish we had a house here. Our chapter is too small for HQ to help pay for part of it. We are getting a new panhellenic house for all the sororities. I can only hope that it will be done before I graduate. Right now all the sororities have meetings in classrooms.
