Enron Ex-Executive found Dead.
Something definitely does not sound right about this whole case....
HOUSTON (Reuters) - The toll of the Enron bankruptcy expanded dramatically on Friday with the apparent suicide of a former executive who had opposed the accounting practices that led to the collapse of the energy trading giant.
J. Clifford Baxter, 43, who resigned as vice chairman of Enron Corp. last April, killed himself with a gunshot to the head, police in Sugar Land, Texas, an affluent Houston suburb, said.
Baxter, who resigned from Enron last May, had reportedly feuded with then Chief Executive Jeffrey Skilling over the propriety of off-balance-sheet transactions involving hundreds of partnerships that ultimately triggered the once-mighty Houston company's spiral into the largest bankruptcy in U.S. history.
read the rest of the report on yahoo....or any other news channel. I heard about it on NBC today.

I'm not surprised at all. We've seen it before, the way to escape is to put a gun in your mouth or to your head...
What's Bush's role in all of this? He ain't sayin' a word.

Boosh
Of course, El Presidente Jorge W. Boosh isn't saying anything. He's probably hunkered down praying that this Enron thing doesn't blow up in his face by 2004.

I'm wondering.... Did this ex-exec REALLY kill himself. I just find it kinda hard to believe that he would commit suicide and he's not even working for this coporation any longer. I mean, why? It's documented that he went head to head with others because he KNEW what was going on and he didn't approve. Apparently, as a result, he resigned, retired, or whatever you want to call it. I don't know. We all know that these big time coporations have a lot of muscle and a lot of pull. I wouldn't put it past them to have people "dealt with" and then MAKE it look like a suicide or something. I guess what I'm saying is that I would haveto know more about this man's disposition and behavior prior to his alleged suicide. And until then, it's going to be ALLEGED for me. It seems as if different things have been coming out about this scandal since it began. I'm willing to bet that there will be more breaking news about this mess probably this week. And as far as Bush's take on this... I'll leave THAT alone.

Good question. I was speaking with my sister and she said the same thing. (She lives not too far from where the man lived). Anyway, since he knew a whole lot and he was about to be interviewed, then he ends up dead. An alleged suicide?
I wonder if this has any connection with Bin Laden? You know he and his crew supposedly bought/sold alot of stock knowing that when they did the attacking that those stocks would drop and make them richer. There is a term for it, but I forgot.
Is there a connection?

Oh tell me it ain't so about Bin Laden possibly being involved. Will this man EVER be out of the news and out of our lives? I don't know AKA2D '91, I'm confused about this whole Enron mess. But there's one thing that I'm NOT confused about and that is that I REALLY, REALLY don't think that that man committed suicide. It's not settling right in my spirit. It wouldn't surprise me that before all of this is over they found OTHERS who supposedly decided to commit suicide.

I had this conversation with my accounting class today. According to my professor it doesn't matter if he still works there or not. Some type of fraud took place on their books and WHOEVER worked there (in the past or present) will have to answer a whole lot of questions (to the courts, the FBI,...). I would not have killed myself but that is a whole lot of pressure.

The guy had sold, according to the news like 35 million dollars worth of Enron's stock last year or a couple of years before that. So, this was something that those execs had seen coming long before December.
The news said this guy had KEY information.
I smell foul play myself.

Um, Um, Um
Being that I live here in Houston, I still feel so sorry for those who lost their jobs and invested monies due to the whole scandal. Some of the people lived, ate, breathed, and slept ENRON. I can't help but to be more concerned about them than the guy who lost his life. I mean now he has gone on but what will happen to those who are still here and have to provide for their families? Some will have forclosures, bankruptcies, and repos. What about them? Well I will continue to pray for them all and ask God to see them through this tedious journey.
