80's date party

What would you wear to an 80's Date Party?
Some ideas we have are dressing up like Madonna or Michael Jackson

Cyndi Lauper, Boy George, valley girls, preppies, the cast of The Facts of Life, E.T., President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy, those big hair metal bands, punk mohawk bands, the GO GO's. That's all that I can think of.

Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, Familly Ties, New Kids on The Block, Michael J Fox in back to the future? Tina Turner (What's Love Got to Do with It Video)

Some ideas, anyway

Great ideas, Cream!

Don Johnson from Miami Vice (if that show did not epitomize the 80's, I don't know what would!)
Flashdance
The Bangles
Culture Club
Fashions with Japanese suns on them
Leopard prints
Tshirts that says "Frankie Say Relax, Don't Do It"
NEON NEON NEON
Madonna from her "Like a Virgin" era
Miniskirts with those ruffle things on them
Also, make sure you study the prom scene at the end of the FOOTLOOSE movie!

And some helpful website from YAHOO

Dont' forget those rubber bracelets-we use to wear them all the way up the arm-they are cheap and easy to find-go to Claire's boutique. Huge hoop earrings. Use lots of Aquanet in the hair.

Tie-die shirts that are tied on the side by a plastic shirt clip. White spandex pants and leg warmers with a pair of Keds. Teased hair. Denim jacket. I want to cry everytime I look at pictures of me wearing that stuff. How did my mom let me walk out of the house looking like that?!?!?!

Yeah, definitely! Also, I think it'd be fun to have an "80s Prom" date party...my older sister has a bunch of dresses from the late 80s, and they are sooooooooo tacky. I'm dying to wear them somewhere, but I'm not gutsy enough to wear one to my actual formal!

Thumbs up

I can't believe no one mentioned crimped hair! Side pony tails and teased bangs where also very big.

* BANANA CLIPS!!!
* ripped jeans
* snap bracelets and rubber bracelets
* hyper color or cross color clothing
* mesh t-shirts over a tank top
* french cuffed jeans
* wearing at least two pairs of neon socks
* light denim jean jackets

I can't believe that no one mentioned acid washed

I can't believe that I forgot Miami Vice. Check out Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire, and any John Hughes 80's teen flick for ideas.

You can consult "The Official Preppy Handbook" for some Muffy and Biff ideas.

Also big moussed hair with butterfly clips, pink zinc lipstick, blue eyeshadow, slouch socks, and acid wash jeans was a big look in the late 1980's. Ah nostalgia! I just described my freshman floormates.

Can someone refresh my memory on "acid washed jeans"?

I think acid washed was where the jeans were pre-washed and they were kind of streaky with white streaks and blotches...something like that. Not a good look!
