getting legacy to join

Hey, my brother, I"m not sure if he counts for legacy, will be attending a different university than mine which has my fraternity represented there. How should I go about getting him to join withouth being pushy. I"m thinking of emailing the chapter there and telling him his name.

Optimist, is he interested in going Greek in the first place? If so, you might want to mention to him that XYZ University has a chapter of your fraternity and that it would be really cool to be brothers in more ways than one. Definitely contact the chapter...if it's not far, you might wanna take a road trip and go meet the guys. It would be fun for you and it would give him a chance to see how he feels about the guys.

Legacy

Your brother will probably go where he feels most comfortable. My chapter of my sorority has had quite a few legacies in the past few years since I joined, and each time, the initiated sister never tried to push her sister into joining our chapter. In one case, the PNM was a legacy to both Phi Sigma Sigma and Delta Phi Epsilon. She just had to go where she felt was best.

I would encourage your brother to examine all his options, and if he feels Theta Chi is right for him, he will go there. Plus, we all know how much chapters vary from school to school, so the chapter that you joined may not have the same feel that your chapter does.

Well, if your brother is going to go through rush, you can notify your HQs that he is a legacy, and they will usually notify the chapter that a legacy is going through recruitment. Sororities do that, I know that for sure.

I think that you should check out your fraternity's website for specific policy regarding legacies. You can also write a letter of introduction to the chapter for your brother.
I was in a similar situation a few years ago. My sister attended a different college with a D Phi E chapter. Much to my disappointment, my sister didn't go greek. It just wasn't for her, and I was Vice President of my chapter at the time.

Plain and simple, tell him you want him.

First off, your brother has to want to go greek. Talk to him about the advantages of joining the greek system and what you've gotten out of it.

Second, contact the Theta Chi chapter at his school, and give them a heads up that your brother is a legacy coming through rush. Notify nationals, too.

After that, it's up to him and the chapter. He may not "click" with his local chapter; he may feel he belongs in a different GLO, or he may choose to go GDI. Or the chapter may feel he's not a good fit and decide not to offer a bid. There's not much you can do about that... and the important thing is that your brother is happy with his decision, whatever it may be.

Yeah he def. wants to go greek, at least he told me he did. I'll talk to him about it some more. Also, his friend is going to the same university as him. Its about twenty min.s from our house. I think I will mention both names when I email that chapter.

Thanks!!!

My sister is going to Clarion next year (where we have a chapter). I have been trying to convince her to rush and hopefully go to my sorority, I'm even trying to save money for her new member fees so there is no reason not to do it...lol
