Good News...Nationals step forward...
Great news copied from the "Greek Life" forum. Thanks to the Alpha Gam webpage, too.
"The Center for Alcohol and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University has announced that it has obtained funding for a two-phase project to seek solutions to the collegiate drinking problems and to formulate policies that will help colleges and undergraduate organizations address underage alcohol abuse.
The project was suggested by James Emison, a trustee of DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana, who believed that the value of the recent research reports on college-age drinking identified problems, but offered college officials and boards of trustees little guidance on solutions. Emison asked CASA to develop a means of finding what programs are being used across the country, to ask for any measures of success and to identify best practices for adoption by colleges and universities.
Pilot funding was given by DePauw University. Emison asked another DePauw alumnus, Norval Stephens, Chairman of the Delta Tau Delta Educational Foundation to determine if fraternities and sororities would join the effort.
“With the exception of welcome support from DePauw University and the University of California, Irvine, other universities we contacted were facing deficits and cutbacks and could not participate,” Emison said. “But the response from the Greek world was exceptional and is still coming in. I sense the fraternities and sororities want to join with college administrations to be part of the solution, not just part of the problem,” he added.
Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Gamma Delta, Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Delta and Kappa Kappa Gamma are women's fraternities sponsoring the project. Among the men's fraternities are Alpha Tau Omega, Beta Theta Pi, Delta Tau Delta, Kappa Alpha Order, Phi Gamma Delta and Phi Kappa Psi."
