Cool Greek Week

So what did ya'll do for your Greek Weeks? How did you do? (assuming that the whole thing is over and you have something resembling a "greek week" at your campus).

At our Greek Week, we have lots of different activities sponsored by different houses. Last year one of the fraternities sponsored a belly flop contest in their pool, another house did a "gallon challenge" with milk, some one had a rootbeer keg contest, and there are always the Greek God and Goddess contests. There's a field day with events and competitions too.

Well great news!! Our chapter who was paired with the Sigma Kappas (a wonderful bunch of ladies) got 2nd this year overall. We won Spring Sing though (which on our campus is the biggest Greek Week event).

During the week we had lots of events starting off with an all-fraternity-all-sorority party put on by the university at the student union. They had a band, soft drinks, burgers and hot dogs. Groups were awarded points based on participation (here and everywhere else -- getting half your group to show up would get you lots of points win or lose). On Tuesday I believe we had a community service project... Our chapter cleaned up a local park. Wednesday was the flag football tournement where we finished dead last and the Sigma Kappas won it all. Thursday was "Greek Wars" which was basically a field day obstacle course thing etc...
Friday we had Spring Sing which we won.

Every day for the last 2 weeks we've been working on Spring Sing stuff from around 9PM to 11:30PM. It was definitely worth it though.

Our school has themes for each Greek Week. This year it was "The Greek World" -- this was to be shown in the banners that each group made to post around campus as well as somehow shown in the Spring Sing skits.

We did a top 5 countdown from TRL based in the 80's. It was lots of fun.

Anyone else have anything interesting they did over Greek Week?

Our Greek Week is April 14-19, so we're getting ready for it right now. We have a charity walk-a-thon and a picnic on Sunday, then the rest of the week is full of activities every day (basketball, volleyball, Pictionary, tug-of-war, Euchre, etc.). Our two biggest events are the talent show and lip sync competitions. Lip sync attracts more students than the homecoming football game! We also have secret spirit events, where judges rate the groups on who is the most spirited and then there is an overall award at the end of the week. It's always very competitive and a lot of fun...I can't wait!

Our Greek Week is this week. We have so many events that we usually do every year. Being that there are only 4 sororities and 3 fraternities, there's not much competition but a lot of rivalry. We have things like Mock Rock, Keg toss, Broomball, Volleyball, etc. Mock Rock is the biggest event. If anyone is interested in some ideas for events, see our website
http://geocities.com/phimuatumd/announcements

Bad news about our Greek Week: Our student union (UMall) is closed now for renovations, and usually a lot of events are held in there and the owner of the Cafe in there always judged things for us. We always had the Greek Week score sheet up there. We tried to put it up in our new building where the majority of students' classes are, but there are strict regulations about signs being put up (they have to be 3x6 or something!) and Rush booths. So now we're stuck putting it in the fitness center, which a lot of the student body doesn't really use. It sucks but oh well! At least the Greeks will be having fun!

We just had our greek week, on sunday we had greek olympics and a welcome bbque then the first night we have quiz bowl, the second was broom ball, then there was this speaker, and we atteneded this campus program called "Tunnel of Oppression." Thursday night was the talent show which we won by doing the "Delta Delta Delta Can I help ya help ya help ya?" skit. It was hilarious and we laughed, but for some reason no one else thought it was very funny go figure. Anyways this year they did it differently and instead of every sorority being with two or three frats, they put mixed teams, a smaller sorority with a bigger one and three frats. At first people weren't very happy, but it helped I think with panhellenic spirit and all that stuff. This year we won AGAIN!!!! go team three there was Tri Delt (oviously), ADII, Sigma Chi, KSig, and another frat, but since I had to work and couldn't go I don't remember, bad me.

Our Greek Week was in February and 10 sororities and 12 fraternities participated. We were paired up with Kappa Sig and took 1st place overall! The first event was penny wars where we got 2nd place. The next event was skit night and our dance was an 80's theme with songs like oppisites attract and foot loose, We took 1st in that which was amazing! The next day we had a teddy bear and valentine drive where again we took 1st. The last day was a volleyball tournament and we got 3rd place in that event. It was a great time!

Our Greek Week was right before spring break (March 4-8). We were paired with Kappa Sig. We placed in every single category (including 1st place in tug-of-war ) and we won 3rd overall! Delta Upsilon and Kappa Delta were first overall.

UGA's Greek Week starts this Sunday, April 7. I'm on GW Exec this year and we've put alot of work into it. Usually chapters aren't very excited about GW but hopefully this year there will be more participation. It seems like all the other schools represented on here are really into it. On Sunday there is street painting. On Moday: dunk tank (chapter presidents sit in the tank), pizza eating contest (it makes you kinda sick seeing guys shove 20 slices of pizza in their mouth all at once), flag football, and lips sync competition. This is the first year we've had lip sync so it should be interesting to see who all does it. Tuesday is community service day and Greek night at the baseball game. Wednesdy is field day. Then the flag football finals are on Thursday. The Finale/Luau, where they announce the champion and Greek Man and Woman of the Year, follows that. There are prizes for the winners of each event and the overall champion gets a free social for their team. I'm thinking Team Pi (my team) will get it!

Our Greek Week is in motion right now. My girls are having fun, except for the fact that our cars got egged at the bowling event the other nite. Acts of immaturity just plain ole suck.

Question Variety/Talent Show

I was wondering if most other people have a Talent/Variety show as part of their Greek Week? At my school, everyone ends up doing similar dances, etc. What kinds of performances have either worked well for your chapter, or have won?

Some that have been rehashed through the years:
- dancing through the decades
- movie spoofs
- mini musicals (Grease, Annie, etc)
- Tributes (Madonna, Janet Jackson, etc)
