Big Bro/Big sis???
I had a question about big bros and big sisters. I'm rushing in the fall and if I do get into this one sorority or choose this one sorority, I know who I would want to be my big sis, so as does she want to be my big sis (she's my best friend). Does this maybe mean that she will be?? And I also am getting close to this one dude from a fraternity, to the point that I told him that I would love it if he was my big bro... so he told me that he will do all that he can to make me his lil sis..becaz he said he'd be honored to have me as a lil sis. Will this work out to my favor ?? or is it depends who and what my big sis wants?

If it's mutual it's pretty much guaranteed

Usually with your Big Sis it's mutually decided. Our pledges write down their top three picks for Big's, and the actives do the same for us to choose their littles. (It's almost like rush since rush is a mutual decision.) As for your Big Bro YOU decide that, and your Big Sis really has no say in it. I chose my Big Bro totally on my own. I think it would work out in your favor. I love my Big Bro, and I feel honored to be apart of his fraternity.

How do you guys even have big bro/sis? Isn't it a Panhel rule that you cannot have big brothers? It's strictly forbidden for us to have them at my school, even though one sorority just lies about not having brothers. I don't really see it as fair because it makes the two greek orgs closer and the other are left out in the cold. Well, we're still close to them, but their pledge classes are closer together. So how do u guys get away with having brothers?

The rule that we have here is that TKE can't have little sisters, but Derek Smith-a Teke- can. Usually our big arranges for us to have a big sis sometime during out pledge period and then it's revealed at the end of Greek Week. (or greek debut in the fall). As such, we have big sis's from AZD, ZTA and a few Gamma Phi Betas.

I don't believe we have a rule like that at my school. Just about every greek I know has a Big/Lil of the opposite sex. My sorority also chose Beta Theta Pi to be our brother fraternity! Odd I guess. I don't think it is fair either. It's a great way to strengthen the greek family.

Sigma Chi isn't allowed to do a big/little sis program. Apparently back in the day a big sis thought she should be initiatied into Sigma CHi and sued for the right to be but she lost and to prevent it from happeneing again nationals put an end to the program. It happened at Purdue and i believe the girl was a Tri-Delt...thanks girls! :-)

So no SigChi can get in the Big/Lil program? I swear there are SigChi's at my school that have Big/Lil Sis's. I may be wrong, but my friend was going to ask one to be her little.

We can't have "official" big/little relationships with fraternities, but we always had informal big/little exchanges. Ours were always a surprise that the social chairs from both houses got together and decided. We then would pretty much give each other letters, hang out, and get to know all the new members and stuff. It was just a social relationship, not an actual affiliation with the orgs, so it was allowed.

I know for a fact that Sigma Chi at my school has a little sister program, they call them white roses. I have a big brother but it isn't my soroity and his fraternity, he and I were out one night and just decided he would be my big. Love that guy too!! Do you all do adopted bigs and littles too? The other fraternities with little sister programs at my school:
Phi Delta Theta
Lambda Chi Alpha
Alpha Gamma Rho
Pi Kappa Alpha
Kappa Alpha
I think Sigma Alpha Epsilon
and Sigma Phi Epsilon just started a program but it is joke, they gave bids to girls because they thought they were cute, not because they do anything for them!!! Everyone laughs at their little sister bids, as sad as it is because I used to be really tight with all them!! The older guys and alums hate it the new guys think it is a way to get laid... it really has to get in shape in order to survive.

In my chapter, the pledgemaster gives questionnaires to both brothers and pledges, asking them what their likes and dislikes are. Then the pledgemaster matches up the ones that are the most compatible. As for me, I ended up with an awesome little and I couldn't have asked for a better one!

I would suggest having someone else be your big, just because if you are already best friends nothing will break that bond. If you get someone else as your big, you will have a chance to have an awesome bond with another person, and that means two people who you are extra close to in your group :P
