Smile Formal Dress Help!

Well.. my boyfriend's formal is less than a month away and I need help finding good places to buy elegant, but relatively inexpensive dresses. I live in a metropolitan area so I am close to LOTS of shopping, but I just don't know where to begin!! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Sarah

This is going to sound weird, but I'd try David's Bridal! They carry formal and prom dresses on top of bridal and bridesmaid dresses. I was shocked as well, but got a coupon in the mail for 15% off for their formal wear, and the picture it showed was of a nice, elegant dress!

Worth a try!

Do check out David's Bridal, that's where I got my wedding dress.

Also, check out Chadwick's of Boston - that's where I found my bridesmaids' dresses. And Victoria's Secret has some nice dresses, but they're not exactly inexpensive.

If there's a Filene's Basement near you, take a look - you may luck out.

You may want to see if any local high schools have dress sales prior to their prom, where slightly used dresses are up for grabs. You may find last year;s $300 dress goes for $50.

Just an idea. I have always lucked out on dresses, and found awesome dresses off season or right after Christmas balls and proms on sale at department stores.

You can always ask sisters or friends to borrow something.

Best of luck.

I've always found great dresses on the sale racks at department stores. They usually put last seasons dresses on sale for 50% off fairly quickly and usually have a good selection. I got my prom dress that way for $25.00 senior year (it was a little more than 50% off though...)

I've always had the best of luck at Dillards. Just went there the other day and it's prom time in full swing!

I would suggest trying lower end department stores...they're cheaper and they usually have just as nice of a selection. Also, if you have a "Dress Barn" they usually have good stuff!

If there are some good ones around you, try a vintage store. The clothes are often much better-made, very elegant, and you can be assured no one will show up in the same thing as you. One bad thing about them though, a lot of the clothes are TEENY WEENY, just because people were smaller back then.

TJMaxx

I don't know if TJMaxx is only in the midwest, but I have bought several dresses there for under $50. Yes, you have to pick through the racks, but if you get lucky, you will find some awesome deals.
