Red face Appropriate Attire for Class

Recently on campus I saw a young lady going to class with a skirt on that was too short for her to sit in a classroom in front of a professor. It was also obvious that she was not wearing any underwear unless she had on a thong. I was not hating on her, but it would have been impossible for her to bend down and pick up a pencil without everyone seeing her goods What do you all think is appropriate attire for classes in the fall and summer? Also tell me about some of the most shocking outfits that you have seen on campus including parties, games and anything else involving campus life.

Where: Delta State University, Cleveland, MS
When: 1996 Basketball game

This girl comes into the stadium with a tall Dr. Seuss hat on her head and red overall. She just thought she was looking so good.

Whatever Floats Your Boat

At my school, people wear whatever they want to wear. Some girls come to class looking like they're going to the club afterward and some people come like they just woke up and rolled out of bed. I personally don't care what you have on, as long as you are clean.

I am more conscious than others of what I wear. I am involved on campus and I never know who I may meet during the day. On Friday, I met Janet Reno. I never want to feel uncomfortable in situations like that because of my clothing. So, I tend to wear attire that is on the dressier side of casual. I can go effortlessly from class to anywhere and still be appropriate.

So does that mean you dress like a classy lady.

I can't even lie. The girls and I used to wear jeans, white t-shirts, and tennis shoes everyday. School was no place to dress up. However, we did dedicate Tuesday as "Dress-up Tuesday." We would wear the usual everyday, but on Tuesday, we would put on something that was dressy/casual for the day. It caught on with our friends and we looked forward to it.

I have seen some girls dress like they are going to a video shoot. That's not my thing. I have to say that I like to be comfortable in class. I tend to get restless and restrictive clothes would just make it worse.

I wear gym clothes to class, lol. I admit!

I mean, I am NOT trying to impress nobody, and the student gym is FREE.

HEL-LO!!

I dress like I am walking across a sweltering down south campus during afternoon heat, lol. No, not like I am in a video (I have seen them), but in a tee shirt, some shorts and sandals. Some days I dress nicer than others, it just depends on where I am going after class or who I am meeting with that day. Shoot, these people have seen me for 4 years, lol, they have had ample time to be impressed.

Comfortable attire

Jeans, decent shirt and sandals, I am in Louisiana.

One girl on campus wears her midriff out everyday even during the winter months.

when i was at school, it was an evolutionary process.
freshman year - as preppy as i could for the first month, then i said screw it cuz i had an 8am precalc. , otherwise i was very preppy.
sophmore year - about the same, preppy, but not too much. i started to relax a bit
junior year - finally lived in an apt of campus so i did dress nicely. not necessarily dresses, but khakis and a nice shirt type of thing.
senior year - i basically said f*** it. i usually dressed nicely anyway to go to class, but going to the bar was a different story. shorts, tshirt, and flipflops.

see i had a roommate freshman year who would get up at 6am to get ready for her 8am class, and no she didn't really eat breakfast.
sophmore year i had a roommate who was totally beautiful. she would go in scrubs around the dorm, but god forbid she would walk outside looking like that. full make up and preppy closes.
i guess that's why i dressed so well.

as for the bar scene. oh it's pretty darn funny. you can tell what year each person is usually based on how they are dressed. frosh are decked out dressed like they are going to be working the corner. i even saw a girl wear a itty bitty halter top to class with a pair of daisy duke shorts and high heel shoes. we got some hoes up in my school.

I agree with you on this one! Unfortunatly @ HBCUs here it's like fashion central though. You see 3 inch heels, club dresses, head to toe "OUTFITS" The temp is 100 degrees past hell outside and they're dressed to the nines. I sit back at watch them melt.

What I wear to class

Me, I wear baggy jeans or sweats and a big shirt to class. School is not the place to look like a fashion plate. Plus, I attend Wayne State. That is in Detroit, a 2 and 1/2 hour drive from Saginaw. For me, doing all that driving and then sitting in class from 8:30-3:30, I MUST be as comfortable as possible. The freshmen give me something to laugh about every Wednesday b/c it's so funny to see them walking around that big campus wearing heels and trying their best to look sooo good. One day, I did see this girl who had multi-colored hair and some ripped all up to heck shorts and a middrift. She looked like she either was on her way to or coming from a rave. I just shook my head and kept walking down Cass.

Ah yess...memories of Grambling!

I go to work right after I leave school so I usually wear khakis. a nice collared top, and black oxford shoes. Very classic casual 'South-of-Market-Dot-com' look. Oh, and a khaki fitted ball cap.

Unless you're in a business program (my sister is in one of those and must wear a SUIT -3 pieces, skirt jacket and shirt with shoes polished, that stuff is serious) it's anything goes, at least on my campus. Some women try to act like they have no home training, showing everything everywhere, but usually they are cured of that within the first week! More often you see peeps who look like they just stepped off the Vogue pages. And yeah, for the 8AM classes you will see the pj pants and wild hair. Since there are a lot of people with internships and/or hooked with the $$, I see a lot of business attire (suits! aaah!), or Banana Republic Casual. The big joke around here is black pants: everyone has a pair.

I guess I'm the opposite of everyone else; my freshman year I was an athlete, so my entire wardrobe was jeans and t-shirts. If it was winter, the t-shirt sleeves were long. Maybe occasionally a sweatshirt. Don't forget the comfy gym shoes for walking/running all over campus. Oh... and I wore my hair always in colorful wraps, in braids, or in my teeny weeny afro.

After I got my job and started talking to my man, (yes I admit it he had an influence) I worked up to where I am now, the business casual. Generally, nice shirts, always pressed, and nice pants. If I wear jeans, they look nice, not the saturday jeans. I'll wear comfy dress shoes or reeeeallly clean sneakers. In the winter I get more formal with the sweaters and stuff.

But generally just dress as if you would run into your mother or grandmother or father or someone you RESPECT and want to respect YOU... you never know, you just might...

that's my $.02
