I have another situational game show brain teaser, albeit a little more lighthearted than the past one.

On Match Game '77 the question was: "Dumb Dora is SO dumb (HOW DUMB IS SHE??!), she sent her cultured pearls to _______"

The contestant said "School"

The panel's responses were:

Ed Asner: COLLEGE [MATCH]

Brett Summers: COLLEGE [MATCH]

Charles Nelson Reilly: SCUBA DIVING SCHOOL [NO MATCH--but judge changed it to MATCH]

Debralee Scott: FINISHING SCHOOL [MATCH--but judge unbeknownst to Gene and the gang changed it to NO MATCH]

Richard Dawson: FINISHING SCHOOL [NO MATCH]

Patti Deutsch: NIGHT SCHOOL [NO MATCH]

This incident created quite a ruckus with the panel and the audience

QUESTION: How many matches do you think the contestant should have got? Two? Three? Six? None?

The contestant could have gotten 2 matches had he given the answer "finishing school". That is the right answer because they were "cultured" pearls. The implication is that since the pearls were "cultured"(i.e. cultured in social circles) Dora would not have needed to send them to finishing school.

That is what made Dora so dumb..

No, doubt, Virtual Violet. But why did the judge OK "college" and "scuba diving school" but not "finishing school" (the definitive answer) and "night school?"

I have no idea, I think the judge caved in to the audience. I really don't know what he was thinking, he was very inconsistent.
