MY GREAT AUNT!
Ladies, I am showing my pride for not only my great aunt but for your late sorority sister. My aunt's name is the late Honorable Verda Freeman Welcome. She became the first African-american female state senator in the country! Just recently I also found out that she is a notable Delta. Is there anyone out there that can tell me what chapter whether undergrad or grad she chapter she belonged to? I also found out that one of her greatest administrative accomplishments was pushing to change the name Morgan State College to Morgan State University which expanded its growth and stature. I am truly proud of her!

Your aunt sounds great and I'm sorry for your loss, but did you ask your relatives that question? Her siblings and/or children could tell you quicker than anyone here.

I assume they don't know either which is why she posted here. Also her aunt died 18 years ago.

I know. I just wondered if this woman had any living children or siblings that might provide the info. It's quite the mystery and I wasn't sure if she had tried them yet (though, thinking again, she probably has ).

Ladies, thank you. I am honored with your responses and suggestions. However, I am a man, her great nephew on an "Alex Haley" type of trek. I have not spoken with my grandfather's side of the family in years and yes, I am will call them. Also, and not by accident ... I am aspiring to become a Que at 42! LOVE YA!

She was also responsible for legislating to change Morgan State College to Morgan State University. That was one my aunt's proudest accomplishments.
