It is my understanding that you must first start a local, do good work for the music community, and get yourselves noticed. After you have "proven yourselves" then each collegiate chapter across the nation votes on whether to accept your local into the national. That's the Cliff's Notes version. If I were you I'd contact Nationals and ask them.

Kappa's right. There's some more info on our web site:

Starting an SAI Chapter

Good luck! It would be awesome if you could keep us informed of how it goes, a la what wishinhopin is doing with her NPC saga in this thread: Rush at UCSC

Texas Southern University (in Houston) is starting a chapter of SAI as well. Originally, they wanted to join our chapter at the University of Houston since they didn't have a chapter at our school, but when the Provice officer found out, she said that they had already done enough to start the pledging process this year.

Also, the chapter at U of H fizzled out about 4 years ago because everyone graduated and they had not rushed for a while. Last year, we reactivated our chapter. When you start a new chapter, please be very open to alumni advice and seek the input of chapters that know what they are doing, 'cause if you don't, there could be issues...
