Rush at my school began the weekend after September 11th occured. Our PHC was so close to moving rush to a much later date this year. Each of the parties that we went to took a few moments each day for silence to remember what happened earlier in the week. The Chi O's had to change the themes for one party due to some of the decorations that they thought would be distasteful! I think it's really awesome how each organization took a while to have all the PNM's, and actives, to remember what happened!

I don't know what in the world we would have done if rush hadn't ended before Sept. 11th on our campus. I think a lot of PNM's and actives alike were just devestated by what happened, and some girls who lost relatives or friends may not even have been able to attend Rush anymore. I'm glad we didn't have to deal with that situation, but also pleased to hear how y'all dealt with it, ChioQT! It takes a lot of grace to continue to live your life, and make the necessary adjustments, in that situation!

This Fall, Round 2 was on September 11th. Many of the women we invited back from Round 1 were noticeably absent because they had loved ones involved.
The event seemed like it was all a blur to all of us. Even though Hawaii seems like it's a far cry from the East Coast, many of us didn't know how to deal with what was going on. Still, instead of ignoring what had happened, we had a moment of silence at the beginning of the event...and I think that really helped many of us...because Round 2 was successful on both sides!

Unfortunately our rush was right in the middle of that week. Many of us were completely distraught about the whole thing, and noticeabley many girls dropped out of rush. Out of respect, we cancelled our philanthropy night, which was fortunate, because it wasn't very well planned. The next night, rush simply continued and we all tried to put it out of our minds. It seems strange thinking back on it, because I felt that everything that I was doing at that moment or talking about was so trivial.

What was their theme? Was it a "New York/New York" or Broadway type of theme? Just wondering. Thank you.

Sept. 11 fell during our rush. We had a day or 2 off to regroup, but many women were distraught, espicially because of our proximity and make up of women from all three crash sites. I'm sure girls dropped out of rush because of it. I'm from the NYC area and was directly affected so I can tell you it was really hard when rushees brought it up. The sisters generally tried to veer away from conversing about it. We figured we'd have a couple of hours to get away from it.

I am just wondering why you are asking? I hope it is not to include how Sept 11 affects your online story.
I don't want to sound really mean but on behalf of those who knew people who actually died it seems cruel to be polling people.
Again, I am not trying offend you if you are genuinely curious but please remember that Sept 11 was very very real and not an online story.

We didn't do anything different after September 11th. Our formal recruitment was about a week and a half later. After making quota during formal, we went on to a Fraternity-Assisted COB. Our chapter had become small and nationals stepped in to help us out because our chapter contributed to a lot of DG history as well as being the oldest existing DG chapter. We hit house total and was once again on top.
Our nationals told us that the week of 9-11, they were assisting the University of Delaware with their COBs and despite of all the events that happened that day....the rest of that week they also pledged 28 women.

We had just finished formal recruitment on Monday, when September 11th happened. But, then the most amazing display of sisterhood occured. All of our girls, including the new members just showed up at the house the morning of September 11th. It was amazing to see how everybody just came together.
I was surprised to hear one of the new members say "I just wanted to be here for my sisters." I was floored by that. I mean a girl who had literally received her bid less than 24 hours before September 11th, already felt so close to us. It speaks so highly of the quality of girls who go through recruitment at Long Beach, and of the quality of girls that Sigma Kappa pulled in this fall.

We had it like a week after Sept. 11. A lot of people at Longwood are from just outside of DC, so a lot of them lost friends and family in the attack on the Pentagon. Rush was not changed a bit. It was kinda hard to not talk about the tragedy during the rush parties since it was still on everyone's minds, but we had to make sure we didn't mention it because we had no way of knowing if any of the girls going through had been affected by what happened.

We had sorority recruitment from September 7-10th. Rush ended one day prior to september 11th, well duh you can see that, but anyways, I'm trying to say that the 10th was such an awesome day, we all got our bids and went to our bid day party and who would have thought that the next day would be very tragic..

Our Bid Day was on September 10th (also my mom's birthday), and as awful as it sounds I was not deeply affected by the events of Sept. 11th because I was too excited about being in college and being in ZTA. I had so many other things going on in my life at that time, so it never "hit" me. I know that sounds mean, but no matter how tragic it was, I didn't want to let that ruin my first semester at college.
