Any Dancers?
Hey just wondering if there are any dancers out there, I just got back from opening nite of the dance production I am in, and was wondering if any of you out there in GC dance? And if you do dance, what type of dance do you do ?
I just took up Modern Dance this past yr or so, and I actually like it, I think though I like Jazz better and i am learning how to tap soon.(Although any dance form that requires you wear ghillies, should be banned !!! )
So dancers where ya at?

I use to do ballet/pointe but stopped when I was about 12 or 13. The shoes you wear for point are a throwback from the torture devices the Chinese used in the ancient days to keep women's feet from growing. My feet were constantly bruised and bloody. I remember the summer before 7th grade I could never wear a pair of flip-flops because my feet were disgusting. A year of pain later, I stopped dancing. I still have scars from those shoes!

I was in dance and part of my high school's drill team. For those of you that dont know what drill team is, its a dance team... we were not cheerleaders. They were more into gymastics, and we danced during half time while the band played our music. So many people who dont know about drill team tend to think we were the flag girls, or the color guards like our school called them. Yes the band played our music, but that was all, we werent part of them.
So, yeah, i know jazz, lyrical, modern, tap, pom, and some ballet things. I would still love to pursue ballet. Maybe ill look into it and join a ballet class.

Until recently, I was a member of the Long Beach State dance team, but doing across-the-floors last semester, I felt something pop in my right knee, and I went down hard. As of today, I am still sitting with my knee immobilized and recovering from surgery. Grrr.
But, I have been dancing since as long as I can remember and hope to recover and be back in the studio again soon!!!

I was in a dance company until the semester I pledged. I actually lost my pledge pin while changing in the bathroom at the studio! I got way too busy with school and pledging so I had to stop. It was really fun and I miss it a lot. I think I like dance better than my major, but I am not as good at it as music, so there would never have been a chance to do something with it other than have fun. I hope to get back into it as a form of excercise but I can't go back with the company I was with because I am moving!
Anyone with an interest in dance, even if you don't feel like you are coordinated or if you think it will be too hard, try it anyway! It is so fun and there are lots of chances for you to be a part of this beautiful form of art regardless of age, physical ability, experience level, etc.
(FYI, if you don't know what a dance company is, it is a dance troupe...an auditioned performing group usually sponsored by a studio or formed independently)

I absolutely love to dance..it's in my genes! I started out at 3 in ballet, then switched to Highland Dancing at the same age in anticipation of my move to Scotland. I was competing about every weekend, up in Canada when I moved back to the US, and ended up winning Regional competition at age 8 and going to Nationals! Dance was my life until I became severely injured by the 8th grade due to faaarrr too much stress on my legs and feet. After recovery I retired to gymnastics (which i'd been doing thoughout dance) until I broke my arm frosh yr in high school...retired again to cheerleading and all-star cheer, both involving a ton of dance! Dancing makes me happy, and now I do it only in recreation. There we go, a few chapters of my life story! Sorry about carrying on, lol.. DGPhoney, what kind of dance prod is it? Are you part of a company, or was it through an audition? Hope you have a great time with it!

I took Jazz for 9 years but when I blew out my ankle during volleyball, dancing kind of went with it. It was so much fun though. I hope that if I ever have a daughter she'd get into it too.

I danced from age 5 to 18-- ballet, tap, jazz, modern-- Loved it... Stopped when I went to college. I was on my high school's dance team, and danced w a studio in my hometown (vegas) all throughout high school-- yeah, if I hadn't wanted an education, I could've been a showgirl-- a lot of the girls I danced with are now.

I went to an arts High school and was a dancer major. I took 6 years tap, I think 6 years Jazz too, 3 modern and 2 ballet. I am not a modern fan, to restrcitive to me. I loved tap, jazz and musiical theatre. Might start taking it up again.

I took dance for years starting when I was three or four. I started with tap and ballet and moved on to jazz or modern. I loved those recitals and costumes when I was a little girl. I stopped before high school. My body hurt too much. When I went to college, one of my sorority sisters asked if I had been a dancer because I have a dancer's body. I'm 5'9" and I have very long legs. She encouraged me to take dance again which I did. I took ballet at 21. She was right, I had the body, but not the talent.
