Hi!

Hi I am 16 years old and live in Rhode Island.I am looking forward to joining a sorority in college but am nervous because they are really competitive.I enjoy baking and sewing and have been considering competing in the Miss Teen RI pageant. Is there anything I can do or should do now to increase my chances of getting into a sorority.I want to go to a school in the south like Ole Miss or Alabama but I don't know any alumni of any chapters.

Hi there! I'm also from Rhode Island, and while it can be a little tough to go into recruitment not knowing many or any girls in the chapters you can still have a very successful recruitment! Stay involved in high school with clubs, work, sports, and volunteering.

Once you get to your senior year of high school you can start asking your mom's friends, friends' moms, and teachers if any of them were in sororities. You can also try getting in touch with the Southern New England Alumnae Panhellenic-just search it on Facebook-to see if they can help you out. Feel free to message me if you want to ask me more questions!

I teach high school in Massachusetts and I didn't figure I'd find many other sorority women in my school. Crazily enough, I've found that 2 teachers in my department are Chi Omegas, there's a Kappa Delta and an Alpha Chi Omega that I know of in other departments, and even a Sigma Kappa who was in my stepsister's new member class in Maryland in the 1990s! There was also a long term sub who was from my Sigma Kappa chapter of initiation. These are just the greek affiliated women I am aware of, I'm sure there are others. Ask teachers, coaches, etc. Women in this area might not be as.... I can't come up with the right word.... (it might not be as obvious and it might not be apparent through conversations or anything else....) but we are still around. Good Luck!
