Should Freshwomen Join?

What do you think about freshwomen who seek membership into NPHC sororities? Do you think they should wait? I joined Zeta as a freshwoman because I knew what I wanted and couldn't wait!!!!

Do u mean freshmen or 1st years? I have never heard of that freshwoman terminology Soror.

I believe that if a school allows a freshmen to join then there should be no guarantee that a freshmen can join. When I was in undergrad we took 2 first years. One was my l.s. She had her head on straight and her stuff was tight. The other first year on the other hand grew a lot while in the chapter. So, I believe the chapter should weigh the decision to accept a first year very closely on maturity level, accomplishments, and potential.....always remembering, however, that Zeta is NOT a finishing school. Finer Women are not made, they are born!

I was just being PC by using freshwomen instead of freshmen/first year students.

I was accepted as a 2nd semester freshman....when I was in undergrad to be considered for membership(as a freshman) you had to be in your 2nd semester and have a 3.0 GPA....I don't see anything wrong with it...I see it as as bringing in someone who will learn alot and be a hard worker(hopefully) for 4 years......

I too was accepted as a second semester freshman. I had a 3.8 GPA. I had leadership experience and I had and still do have my head on straight. I think you would have to weigh the options on an individual basis. No two people are alike so there for you need to careful when making a decision as serious as this.

I think everybody should be evaluated on a case by case basis, but I think most people change from the beginning to the end of their first year. Some freshmen are more mature and understand what it really means to be a Zeta, more than a senior ever will. However i do think that if someone wants to join as a freshman they should have some additional criteria to be evaluted on.

This issue has been brought up with frat as well. I was on as a freshman and I am against freshmen coming through my organization. I was a special case (double legacy) but I don't think I should've been accepted. But like with me it should be evaluated case by case.

Being a legacy is not a special case for membership...not in Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. We don't have a legacy clause. I dare say, age is not the litmus test for worthiness as a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. The Most Honorable Founder Myrtle Tyler was only 18 when Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was first established.

We don't use being a legacy as a descesion maker but I was saying that may have been a reason that they took me as a freshman. One of the reasons one doesn't take freshmen is b/c they don't understand the greek system. They knew that I did.

Hi, ladies! Hope you don't mind me responding. I haven't known any freshmen to come through my chapter since I've been on campus. I think it's important to make sure you know where an interest's head is at before you allow her to make any committments. Greek life is a totally new experience to many college students, and for some, one semester is not enough to know FOR SURE what direction they wish to take. For others it may be more than enough. So I agree it should be case-by-case. I've spoken to several freshman girls who told me organizations tried to "recruit" them, but because they were unsure of what they wanted to do, they were left feeling uncomfortable with the whole situation. I also know of orgs that pull in 1st semester freshmen/transfers before they have adequate hours. I've seen many girls begin a "process", and when they have the hours, they don't have the grades. They end up unable to go through with the process, but walk away knowing stuff non-members shouldn't know.

It's just important to be careful in any situation.
