I'm not from Albany, but I'll try to help. We had our formal in hotel ballrooms and restaurants. You should try to contact as many hotels and restaurants in the area in next few days if you plan to have your formal this spring because you need at least one month to prepare. Also, you should try to avoid having a formal on the same night as fraternities that have brothers who date your sisters. Plan for transportation to and from the formal especially if drinking will be involved. Many campuses or companies offer inexpensive bus or car service. Party favors and decorations with your letters or crest on it can be a fun keepsake. Photographers are an important part of any formal. You can check with other fraternities and sororities or your campus newspaper for recommendations.
Are you in charge of your formal? If so start a committee and have sisters work on each of these things so you don't wind up stuck doing all of the work. Good luck!
