Depauw dz whatever happened with them?

Many years ago in a galaxy far far away DZ recolonized their DePauw chapter. Whatever happened with that?

Did the new chapter thrive? There was a lot of controversy at the time but tat was years ago.

Info

From Wikipedia,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DePauw...on_controversy
two things...

1) In November, 2007, Delta Zeta withdrew the lawsuit and DePauw agreed that the sorority will have the opportunity to compete with other sororities attempting to colonize a chapter on the campus beginning in academic year 2010/11 however Delta Zeta elected not to compete for the 2010/2011 academic year and as of May 2010 has no future plans to do so.

2) Meanwhile, 10 Delta Chapter alumnae have formed a college-sanctioned student organization, Psi Lambda Xi, with the goal of becoming a new sorority. A founder said, "The founding purpose of the sorority is to promote a positive self-image in each other, the University and the community.

Additional comment: Psi Lambda Xi is still a local at Depauw, see http://www.depauw.edu/studentlife/gr...epauwchapters/

Thank you.

That's a shame it turned into a real lose-lose for everyone.

Yeah, we have no presence at DePauw and I would be very surprised if we ever do again. It's a loss for us because it was our Delta chapter and there aren't many of our single-letter chapters left.

I'm not sure I'd go that far. The only times I've ever heard of permanent bans are in the case of hazing deaths and this *certainly* isn't at that level. The school invited Delta Zeta in the most recent Panhel expansion so it seems that an official level, things have cleared up...

Hello Greekchat members and Delta DZs,

I loved Delta chapter and visited with the ladies in 2001 - 2003. The chapter was founded in 1909. I gave the chapter a 1917 Delta member certificate that had been given to me by the son of a distinguished Delta member.

I think the 21st century Delta women were given a tough road by many on campus who later pointed to Oxford, OH. After the chapter was closed, our national organization sued the university. The outcome published was that DZ won the right to be welcomed back on campus whenever they chose. I post this only because of the above post about a “permanent ban”. Not only was there no ban, DZ won the lawsuit (in so far as lose-lose situation goes).

The petitions of the lawsuit are not public and I do not know what they were. But, without them there could have been no lawsuit and no decision in favor of Delta Zeta. So while I do not know what the basis of the lawsuit was, I would assume it concerned that DZ was complying with the DePauw administration on reorganization (timing mid-year). And, that the administration then disavowed any complicity to the point of vilifying the sorority about leaving members to be given alumna status without a place to live on campus. (Why?)

While bills must be paid by a healthy chapter, there was no rush to reorganize on Delta Zeta’s part. After the lawsuit, our national organization held on to Delta’s empty chapter house for more than a decade for the dream of returning to DePauw. We love that campus, its educational values, and its history. We did not return only because the vibes on the sorority remain negative in Greencastle. Our headquarters recently sold the house. Four other NPC sororities have sold major real estate in this remote community of Greencastle, IN. So, in "the most recent Panhellenic expansion..." referenced above, I ask - did any NPC groups apply? I expect they will only apply if DePauw GIVES them real estate. Any expansion group will be looking at any anti-Greek sentiment on the part of members of the administration and the faculty; and, the total campus size and ability to support a new Greek organization.

DePauw is a wonderfully close university community. Legacy is not a Greek term to them; it is the University’s life blood. This is a campus that once played Notre Dame and Indiana in football. This is the campus on which two NPC sororities were founded. This is a campus that gave my sorority many of its earliest leaders. This is a campus that currently has an enrollment of 2,300 students. Less than most twenty-first century high schools. And, yes I wish Delta Zeta were still a part of Indiana Asbury – Depauw – Indiana.

Interesting perspective. I don't quite understand the sentence of your post that I have bolded. Could you explain a bit more what you mean?

I think she means that the Greek community and the rest of the campus treated them like poo, the advisors and administration did nothing to allay it, but then the campus blamed everything on DZ nationals being big shallow meanie pants.

I'm sure this has truth to it, but I would look at the situation and see who the chapter members themselves felt more shafted by. If I recall, none of them were under the impression that they were joining the top chapter in the pecking order and they pledged anyway.
