Sorority Recruitment at UF

Hi, I am a senior in high school and I was recently accepted into the University of Florida and will be attending and rushing in the fall. I was wondering if anyone had any specific details of what I should be expecting in fall recruitment. What do sororities look for? How important are recommendations? How many should I get? What if I went in without recommendations? How much does your physical attractiveness come into play? How competitive is it? I know that Florida is a SEC school but I always thought greek life wasn't as big as Alabama or another school in the deep south.

Really any information that you know about UF greek life would be extremely helpful and greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much!

There are many thread here about SEC recruitment. All of them apply to Florida. What you need are a solid resume including solid activities with leadership, excellent grades, stellar reputation, pleasant personality and good manners. Yes, you need recs - 2 per chapter. They do not have to be from UF alums - anyone who is an alum of that chapter can send one for you. You should dress in style and within the parameters shown in the UF recruitment literature. Clean, neat, presentable (as your grandmother would say!). And yes, it is competitive. Have an open mind, go to the events which are scheduled for you and stick with it till the end.

Greek life at UF is VERY big. You need recommendations to all the chapters-I would suggest two per chapter. Titchou gave you great advice and I really can't add to it, except to say look around Greekchat for UF recruitment threads-there are plenty. They may help you get a feel for what you will experience in a few months.

UF Recruitment

I am happy to share my daughter's good and bad experiences at UF recruitment from last fall. People were very kind to me when I was upset so I feel compelled to "help."
You should have two recs per house. My daughter didn't. She was the first to rush in my family and we only got twelve recs. You should rush as a freshman which you state you are planning to do. Mine rushed as a sophomore.
You should go in with a very open mind. Mine loved some and didn't like others. Only a few houses that she loved invited her back and the ones she didn't feel a connection to also did.
I think she was too "transparent" instead of keeping an open mind. It was also brutally hot that week and many (not just mine) were not happy with the clothes, hair and makeup.
Near the end, she stated it wasn't for her but when she did not receive a bid she was devastated. And like every other girl, she had the grades, personality, looks and social skills.
She rushed a local service sorority a month later. Ironically, only 30 out of 85 were accepted and she received a bid. Just as many have said "you end up where you're supposed to be." No sorority house but a bunch a great friends. She just did UF's Dance Marathon with her sisters and said it was life changing.
Get your recs and go with a good attitude and you'll be great. Let us know
