Serious question
Hey guys!!! I need some advice and please be as honest and helpful as possible.. Okay so this is my dilemma I always wanted to be apart of a sorority and when I finally started college I started rushing a couple sororities. I had no knowledge of D9 Greeks at all. I started pledging my local organization and close to my crossing date I found out about D9 etc. I'm the type of person that sticks to something and don't give up. So I continued with my local org and finally crossed as a sister. Now I've been a member for 3 years and I'm starting to feel like this isn't what I want to be apart of . My organization isn't what I thought it would be. I want to disaffiliated myself and try to pledge for a NPHC ORG. what should I do? Is it acceptable to disaffiliate and pledge another? HELP
Sorry if there area u typos or errors, I'm typing pretty fast

"a part"
Technically, you can disaffiliate from a local sorority and pursue an NPHC sorority.
Will the NPHC sorority think highly of you abandoning one sorority to pursue another sorority? We don't know. It depends on how the women in the local advertise membership (lifetime commitment?) and it depends on how the women in that NPHC chapter feel.
Do all NPHC aspirants get accepted? No.

Quoted for posterity. It's a way of saving what you wrote, in case you decided to delete it.

I also always presumed that there was no official conflict with local sororities/fraternities and NPHC orgs, but I just realized I'd never heard of it happening. Dr. Phil is right in that even though it may be allowed that doesn't mean the local chapter will smile upon it.

I'm thinking it also depends if the local chapter conducted itself in the style of what people associate with an NPC or an NPHC. (I'm picking up on her saying she "crossed" but then again, I've seen websites with NPC groups using that terminology. )

Pardon my ignorance but are there locals styled after NHPC orgs?

Yes.
There are also national predominantly Black GLOs that aren't NPHC but are styled after NPHC GLOs.

At one of the colleges I went to (I've been to two for undergrad), they had a local African American fraternity that existed for years, even before the NPHC orgs chartered chapters there (PWI). Maybe it was because the local was there before the NPHC orgs, but they were well respected by the campus and yes a few of their members later became NPHC fraternity members and it was all good with everyone. It was really great how everyone co-existed just fine and supported one another even though the local wasn't NPHC (this could also be because the campus had such a small African American population). So it definitely depends on the chapter and the campus. I would say just be honest but yeah expect that all or some members may question your loyalty since membership is supposed to be a lifetime commitment.
