Many of you may be familiar with the business Insignia. It's probably better known by its URL -
http://www.greekwatch.com. It sells fraternity and sorority watches.
It is a small business owned by a Washington man named Tim Eyman. He's famous here for starting lots of tax-lowering initiatives. The problem has been his poor grasp of how the process works - most of his initiatives have been thrown out of court for containing multiple issues on one ballot or something similar. That's been frustrating for the voters who liked what they were voting for, only to see it thrown out on a technicality.
That's no big deal - a business and its owners politics can be separate - but the biggest news story here lately has been that he has been pocketing many of his supporters' donations. Even that wouldn't be a big deal if he hadn't been insisting for years that he didn't keep a penny of it, and has now admitted to lying about that. (See
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...yman05m0.html.) He always said, "I make plenty of money in my watch business, so why would I need more?"
He still has his supporters, and I realize that readers here may be some of them. If you don't feel there's something a little unethical or slimy about his behavior, go ahead and buy his products. But I sure don't feel comfortable supporting him with my dollars. If you want a fraternity or sorority watch, I suggest you look for one elsewhere. That's just my 2 cents, and I don't expect everyone to agree. I just want people who aren't aware of this business' background to understand what it is.
