Re-Colonizing Defunct Chapters
I know that there is only like 3 Betas on here, but maybe someone else will read this too. I was wondering if there are any Beta Alumni out there who are interested in re-colonizing a dead chapter? I know that Beta has a ton of them, most of them very old and they used to be at old East Coast schools.
A friend of mine and I are talking with some different greeks at different schools in our area, asking if there are any prospective interest groups. If there is, we may just make a 2 day trip out of it and try to 'talk Beta' with them and see if we can spark up some interest.
If anyone, especially non-Betas, read this, and there is an interst group at your campus and there is not a Beta chapter there already, please contact me! We are always looking for a few good men.
Thanks!

Hey Bro,
You can count me in. why dont you IM me about what your thinking and what schools. I know we spoke about my old school. I'd love to get the interest going back again but most of the guys in my chapter are pretty apathetic about it. Its really sad. Maybe eventually something will happen and we'll bring beta back to GMU. Even still I'm interested in bringing beta to other schools. Especially the old ones on the east coast. I know William & Mary recolonized.

Yo Kev.
What we have been doing is just sending e-mails to different people at schools where Beta is not. If there is an interest group, we will take it from there. We are not actively seeking, but if something comes out of our searching, we will jump on it. I don't know, it may be difficult working 45 hours a week, and back in school with 8 credits, but like I said, if something comes up, I will take a good look at it.
What you may want to do, is contact your school (Deans Office, IFC...etc.) and express your interest to them about getting your chapter back. YOu don't need other alumni support, if they are all negative about it, but a few guys wouldn't hurt. If there happens to be an interest group at your old school, or you can get a group of say 5 guys together who would be willing to put time into getting Beta back on campus, then all you would have to do is guide them and get them in contact with General.
Let me know what you think.

It sounds like you have quite a load with both work and school. I'm very proud of your efforts to get this plan into action. It sounds like a good idea. You might make some head way Especially after you get your classes out of the way. I believe we still are welcome back at GMU because we were told that when we left. Really, I think its more of talking the General into it. They were the ones that pulled our charter. I think its possible. There might be a few guys. Its worth a shot. I already asked some guys last year and didnt get much luck but maybe I'll get lucky this year. You might ask Sarah if she knows any sisters from the Alpha Xi Delta chapter from GMU and their take on it. I might ask my sister in law Jeannine(AGD alum) about her take on it and the possibility of other schools and maybe even her school that might have an interest.

I will do a little poking around for you...hopefully there is some kind of a group looking to re-start. I am sure that General would look at it if it is a serious group. I know some of the guys who work for General so I can get there input on it as well.

Hey ZZ,
Had a blast chatting with you on AIM tonight. We'll have to do it more often. Sorry I left. I had a lot of cookies and my computer crashed. So, got everything back together and now I'm signing off again. Thanks again tonight for your efforts. You have a tremendous amount of spirit. I enjoyed that mug picture.

Kevin,
It looks as though some of your old brothers are kind of taking the re-colonization as a joke, but hey, its all in good humor. They actually sound like some of my friends. Anyway, I hope that something comes out of it, and hopefully you can rally a group of guys to get the fire started.

Hey ZZ,
I'm sorry about that. The response was pretty much what I expected. Well, at least we got the wheels turning and maybe some of the boys will come around. It sucks not having a second home. Even more tragic that our beloved brother Todd Malik is dead and we've never gotten it back together. Although, the response from the general sounds promising. I want to thank you for your efforts. You have true spirit brother.

Yeah, we'll just see what comes of the AXiD lead. You should start hooking up with some old GMU Beta alumni and see if they are interested. You will need some help....then start contacting the University and the General Fraternity. If the alumni show interest, then the General Fraternity will assist...IF...the University is looking to expand.
Good luck!

Thats cool. Yeah, hopefully something comes out of that. I'll see what I can do. I think if that approach worked it would be a lot easier to get the older alums and the general on the bandwagon. Maybe we can enlist some other sororites too. I dont know. Thanks for all your help.

You could try gaining the help of the sororities. Or, you could check to see what Beta alumns are in the area. They don't have to be from the GMU chapter, they just need to be Betas. Who knows, maybe some Beta moved out there for a job and would love to help start a chapter back at GMU? I know I would if I moved away from my house!

Hey Kev,
Thanks for the pictures. Who did you go to P.R. with? I bet that trip was a good time. I am going to Mexico in March, so it will be good to get out of good ole WI.
Thanks again!
