Brothas (The Song, The Remix, Our Brothas)
"I searched and did not find anything related to this subject"
Angie Stone's Brotha's single will be released soon. I would like to encourage everyone who can to either buy this single. The Reason?
This is one of the most needed songs in recent times. I love black men for so many reasons. My major four reason is because I love my husband, my son, my father and my brothers. I have always known their greatest and Angie has put it in words.
Now we have the opportunity to show America that they (brothas) are appreciated. Yes, rump shaking and bumping and grinding sells millions in our community let's make sure a song like this sells millions too. That is my request.
The responses I would like from this topic is what do you all like most about Black/Ethnic men ?
It does'nt matter if he is German and Jamaican he is a brotha.
I will start it off:
I love the color of a brotha's skin .
I love the texture of a brotha's hair.
I love the hazel to brown color of a brotha's eyes.
I love the whiteness of a brotha's smile.
I love the way a brotha dress from the sagging jeans to the suit.
I know you all can be more creative than me so let me hear it and details, examples are okay!!!

I got in a heated discussion with my, well, i don't know what to call him right now... but anyway:
I do not feel like the song is "needed" right now or ever. Personally, i love black men and i would never do anything to tear them down, but i don't like the song for two reasons:
- Alicia Keys... sorry just don't like her sound. makes me think about little kids whining for cookies or candy when she sings.
- Also, i have never heard a brother make a song for the sisters in general. If a man sings a positive ditty about a woman, it's his mama or his wife.
I think there's a double standard out there - we HAVE to uplift our brothers b/c no one else will. that's not right, and it's not fair, but in my house, you were raised not to expect praise or rewards for doing what you're SUPPOSED to do. so i wont be singing and dancing if a man is in school, works everyday, takes care of his kids, and so on. That's EXPECTED. I am not a "hater" and i do not try to put the brothers down, but i don't see the need for a song (especially with Miss Keyes) singing their praises. The only brother i exalt is Jesus.

Blutang...
You don't like the original version of the song either? Or you just don't like the remix?
I'll be back with my response, I just needed to be nosey for a minute, lol.

It's Angie Stone. But I don't like Alicia that much either.

I really like the song, although as many of y'all might know, I consider myself equal opportunity, lol.
But there is just something about a brother. And it's not really physical IMHO because well physically, WE can be and are of every variety under the sun. It's something mental, about a shared background and, well sometimes, an understanding of where you're coming from, be it the ghetto or the suburbs.

BluThang,
I am a little confused, there have been many songs giving props to women. As mentioned Ginuwine. Also the song by Glen Lewis "Don't you forget it." Maxwell'S ENTIRE CD.
In my house I was also taught not to expect praise for what you are supposed to do.....but also taught to say thank you for the little things. I feel this is what is right on time and should be done.
Yes, we should uplift our brothas because of the reason you stated "No one else will."
As for the sarcastic remarks at the end. I cannot deal with your feelings on Alicia Keys. I don't care for her either but she does'nt effect my thoughts on social issues such as this. Jesus is my Savior and strength and no one feel that you should exalt anyone other than him.
I think you are having man problems and I appreciate if you would not use this subject to man bash.

I know this discussion wasn't meant for me to join but I would like to say something if I may. Sista BLUTANG, although I respect your opinion and the way that you were raised, I disagree. There are songs out there by brothers talking about uplifting the black woman by artist like Tupac, Ginuwine, R Kelly, Stevie Wonder and I'm sure there are many more. Besides their mothers and wives DO represent black woman. I believe that as a race, we don't give each other enough props. Not for doing what you are supposed to do, but doing it against the obstacles that this society has set for BLACK PEOPLE in general. And why are y'all hatin on Alicia Keyes? A young black woman who has the talent to WRITE HER OWN MUSIC! She composed the songs that she sings. I like her music. It's people like Destiny's Child and Mariah Carey that I don't get But I guess we just disagree

i love the ambition and ingenuity of a black man...
all of my brothers seem to have a lil' bit of the "hustle" in them... and I love to see a black man MAKE his own WAY.

Angie is my Homie
I love the song "BROTHA", remix too.
This song is needed everyday as the "Anthem" for us to love our brothers. They need just as we women need to be uplifted. The other day I was at Blimpies and dude was trying to hit on me and I was like UGH WTF just make my sammich but that song came to me and I realized that I was being really uppity if you will. So I turned it around and talked to him nicely and kept the convo level, you know. I thanked him and told him to have a wonderful day AND I looked him in the eye. I know all too often Black men find us to unapproachable and we put them down a lot (remix of 2PAC) but we need to stop. That song reminds us that BROTHAS are strong and loveable and ARE the BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD!!
I love a brotha period. His kisses, his hugs, his smell, his intellect, his ability to keep on keeping on, his drive, his failures, his success, etc. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE WAY A BLACK MAN LOOKS IN A SUIT but not those loud azz suits @ REMOS.
