Local mascots?

My chapter has a local mascot (penguin), and I was just wondering if other chapters do as well. Is that a common thing? Thanks ladies!

We didn't, but a lot of chapters use the Snake.

I like snakes enough that I wish we had.

We didn't. We did have some family mascots though. I know there was a bear family and a cow family. I tried to get mine going as the penguin family (sadly obssessed with them) but no one but me was for it.

haha.. we had the grey squirrel as our mascot! i think mainly for the reason that squirrels out-number students on my campus 3 to 1!

(but i have to admit that i kind of found them cute, and i really liked it.. i used to tell all our new members "welcome to the nut house" )

I was a member of the DIVA family & we had one but I can't say what it was b/c it was a *secret* that you learned at the family initiation. LOL!
In all seriousness, it was harmless & really fun at the time.

I have 19 stuffed penguins. Not kidding. I think 15 of them are the same kind of penguin too. Toys R Us makes awesome penguins.
I wish our chapter had a mascot...

When I go visit my guy for the weekend, I usually bring along this giant stuffed chocolate lab he bought me (yes I did coerce him into it!). He fell in love with my mini chocolate lab and I have a stuffed tiger I sleep with. I have to have some stuffed animal to hold when I sleep or I can't sleep. Yes I am almost 23 and yes I still do love stuffed animals.
I named my stuffed penguins after world leaders because they were stuffed emperor penguins. Napoleon, Churchill, Kim (Jong Il-wrong I know), Blair, Elizabeth...
I am a five year old in an adult's body. Good thing boyf likes that about me

OMG you and I are so a like! Except I am 27 and have a deep attachment to all my stuffed animals. Right now there is no where to put them so they are in a plastic bag. My names aren't that creative, they are all just named "Penguin".

There's a reason we're sisters! Funny, I haven't really bonded that much with my chapter sisters, it's the ones I meet over the internet that make me sure I made the right choice.
For the record, I name everything. My car has a name, my computer has a name...I named my boyfriend's boots. Left one is Magnolia, right one is Destroyer.
Oh...I went to the New England Aquarium and they have the most adorable stuffed penguins ever. Next time I go I'll get you one and send it. I got a penguin chick! So cute!

This is eerily creepy b/c I do the same thing. I have a collection of cats that I adore. My husband just thinks I'm a crazy cat lady but I have so many, most are put away in boxes b/c I have no room for them in our house.
I have NeeHee (from Hawaii), Nala, Simba, Mufasa (yes I do enjoy the Lion King), Patches, DooDoo, Talita, and Tabitha.

The chapter in vegas uses the dove and we tried to embrace it as much as possible. all the other chapters love love love their mascot like adpi and the lion and dz and the turtle and alpha gam and the squirrel. so whenever the girls need a pickerupper or an energizer a girl puts her hands on her back like a dove and starts squaking all over the room. great during recruitment right before we open the doors for the pnms to come in. also they even came up with the cute saying of
NO DOVE, NO LOVE

We use the dove as well. When I was the VPM and trying to put together photos for the video, a few sisters and I decided that we needed a 'sign' like ADPi's four-finger diamond or Tri-Delt's fingers/thumbs triangle, so we told the sisters to start taking pictures with 'hearts and doves' - pointer fingers and thumbs making a heart, with the other fingers fanned out around the heart to make dove wings. I don't know if any other SK chapters do it; our sisters had used the gesture before, but we'd never done it in pictures before that year. Our girls loved it, and every picture taken since then has at least two girls making 'hearts and doves'. Now all the new members think we've been doing it forever. It's amazing how quickly history rewrites itself.

Also, some of our families within the house have their own mascots. I'm in the frog family (DEFINITELY the right place for me! ::ribbit:: ), so pretty much every Christmas/birthday/etc., my littles get me frog stuff.

we also do the heart and dove but we add the triangle. everything else is the same but we put our middle fingers together to make a triangle.
oh yeah...i forgot to mention that my family chose the monkey as our mascot. we used to have two families into one calling it the ellemouse but now my family is one of the biggest in the chapter!!!
