When this occurs in AOII, a new President would be elected within 1 to 2 weeks. In the interm, the VP of Administration would handle the duties temporarily.

In my chapter, the VP in charge of Membership (Rush Chair) would take over until election time rolled around again.

The 2 positions are quite different - much more paperwork for the VPA than CP - one person maybe more suited as VPA than CP (we also have 3 other VP's too). It also allows flexiblity of a more suitable candidate to run in circumstances like this.

In my organization the VP would step up and a new VP would be nominated and elected immediately.
Have a nice day

For us, the offcer who wants to step down calls for a re-election for that position, and we handle it at the next meeting. We're small, so it works out well.

It's been done before in my fraternity. Apparently, the President-elect one year was inelgible to be President because he wasn't enrolled. So, the VP at the time got promoted (my gosh, he was fsckin' incompetent) and we elected a new VP.
It wasn't a great time because our fraternity was near collapse at that point, and our secretary went AWOL -- I had to take over the secretarial duties in addition to my already overwhelming duty as treasurer.

I've had this happen twice, and our first VP (VP Operations) takes the role of president and a new VP Operations is elected. The VP holds the presidency until the time of the next election.

In my chapter, with the only exception of the president, any vacancy is simply filled by special election (or appointment if an ordinarily appointed position). In the case of vacancy in the office of president, the vice president would be immediately installed as president and a vacancy declared in the vp's office to be filled by special election.

A similar situation happened to my chapter this past year. The president went home to another province for the summer. she called me(outgoing pres) twice the entire summer, and called noone else. She ended up not coming back and not telling us either. we haven't seen her since, but she still has some chapter belongings...Anyway, the vice pres was in charge until elections were held....although because of the mess i think elections were held off for 3 or 4 weeks, normally we do it after 2 (you need nominations open for at least one week)....unfortunately after this the vice stepped down cuz she was burnt out from doing so much work.....

In a situation like that, nominations and election for a new president would occur immediately. Ideally, the meeting where our President stepped down/was removed would end with us having a new president. If circumstances wouldn't let us do it right away, our vice president would take over the role temporarily.
