Matriculation Book?
I know that most/all of us signed our chapter rolls when we were initiated. How many colleges have matriculation books?
When this link
http://vimeo.com/73863843
came in one of Bowdoin's weekly messages last fall I asked my husband if he remembered signing the book when he entered Bowdoin in the fall of 1958. He most certainly did.
I found this reference to Kenyon's book:

Anyone else? I suspect it's a tradition at smaller/older schools. Obviously it would be a logistical nightmare at a big university. (Just look at the number a Mizzou's Tiger Walk! http://calendar.missouri.edu/event/t...k#.UrCJ_qOA3IU)

We actually had that at NJIT. It's something that is unusual?

I had never heard of this until now, but I find it wonderfully special! I'm kind of jealous my university didn't do it.

I saw the Monmouth and my ears perked up. I figured it was a very long shot for a lad from Monmouth, IL to travel to Bowdoin. And it was. Mr. Mower was from Monmouth, ME. He was in the Classical Division (cl) and not the Scientific Division (Sc).

I found it annoying because they made all the freshmen come to a convocation like two or three weeks during one of our "common hours" which were when there were no classes scheduled. It was also the only chance I had to eat with a day full of classes, so I was pissed that I had to skip lunch for it.

Nope def didn't have that at Maryland. With 24 k undergrads, I think that would've been a logistical nightmare.
