Re-bidding the same fraternity

Hi there. I am transferring to another university at semester this year. I was wondering, if I did NOT get a bid from the university I am currently attending, can I re-bid that same fraternity at my new university that has the same fraternity I am interesed in. (but did not get a bid this semester). Thanks!

You can rush, but no one here can tell you if you will get a bid. Good luck with your transfer/move/new school/getting settled/rush!

Re-bidding

I know no one can tell if I will get a bid right away, I was just wondering if there are rules where you cannot rebid the same fraternity if you did NOT receive a bid the first time around at the first university. Basically, am I declined all the way around or do I get a fresh start at the new college??

How is it a re-bid if you never got one the first time? Wouldn't it be re-rushing?

If you go through rush and the guys at the new school's chapter likes you, they can extend you a bid.

However, just because you liked the guys at the 1st school, doesn't mean you will like the guys at the 2nd school. Take a look at other fraternities on campus.

Reply to amIblue?: Yes. He is mistaken in his terminology.

Re-bidding

I put all my 'eggs in one basket' for this one fraternity and did not get extended a bid so I am without any fraternity opportunities this semester. However, I am transferring for a variety of reasons. Since I didnt receive a bid, just verifying that it is cool that I rerush the same fraternity that did not extend an offer for a bid. (but at a different university)

Please STOP using the word "re-bid". It is completely inaccurate and confusing. As other Greek members have explained to you here, you want to re-rush

But to answer your questions, the chapters operate independently so the opinion of one won't affect the opinion of another.

While fraternity rush is definitely different than sorority where it comes to "maximizing your options," since you are going to a new school, I would maximize your options You probably don't know much or anything about the fraternities at the new school. The rush experience itself can be helpful for you to get to know some guys so you might as well check out several. This would seem like an especially bad time to put said eggs in only 1 basket.

...unless he's thinking about getting a bid to this particular fraternity and then transferring back to his original university. Please tell us you're not planning on doing this!

If there was a specific reason you didn't get a bid at your university, that could possibly work against you at your new school, keep that in mind. If the school's chapters are close it could happen.

Otherwise, anything is possible. Some Universities have huge greek systems and have to be more selective than others. An example is IU compared to a school like FGCU. An FGCU chapter has less potential members than an IU chapter so they cannot be as selective as IU. An IU chapter could have 300+ guys come and only want to take 40. A FGCU chapter may have 50 and want 20 guys.
