Board of Education Election and Alleged Greek Involvement

Oh.
Em.
Gee.

Looks like the Tuscaloosa City Board of Education election flap is making news, with mentions of sorority and fraternity pushes for votes:

Oh, get over themselves. GOTV is part of the process of elections. Anyone running for office who doesn't offer rides, spearhead voter registration among friendlies, etc. doesn't deserve to win because they don't understand their constituencies.

The drinks thing is a little icky, but election day rallies at restaurants and bars is absolutely normal. Depending on how the invitation was worded it might have just sounded like buying votes with drinks. And by the way, voting is private, so if someone wanted their free drinks AND wanted to vote for the other guy that would absolutely be their prerogative.

Reminds me of an election here in Indonesia about 10 years ago. One of the candidate was giving away money in order to bribe people to vote for him for a local election. People did not mind receiving the money, but the politicians lost in a land slide. He must have paid out over $100,000.

2 of 4 candidates for local board are chapter sisters. Glad I am not eligible to votes/choose. Both would be great.
