In a weird place regarding rec letters
First of all, I'm trying to do informal recruitment this fall but I don't know college graduates who are in a sorority. Zip. Nada. Zero.
So that means I should've been extra prepared about my recommendation letters, right?
Well, I have an explanation. I called the Office of Greek Life at my school and they said that they would wait until next week to announce who would be doing recruitment this semester. So I have no idea who will actually be taking up members right now.
I do suspect that one sorority will be participating based on some info I found recently, so I went ahead and made the call to the national headquarters and asked to see if there are any alumnae in my area. The woman on the line said she would send an email regarding this. She said I should call back on Monday if I didn't hear back.
Now I'm kinda worried that things won't come in on time, so I want to ask the recruitment chair if there are any alumnae in the area and have my parents pick me up from school to meet them. (I'm a local) On the other hand, I don't want to sound presumptuous or make a bad move by assuming that they are doing recruitment this semester.
What should I do? Should I make a move or just wait for a call back?

If you are doing informal, you will have to wait till you know what groups are participating and to which ones you are invited. Most probably, they'll get the rec for you since doing them for informal is sort of difficult, given the time frame. I'd forget about it.

Thanks for the response.
However, I looked at the description for fall recruitment again, and it says that girls will have the chance to visit all participating houses.
Does this information change anything?

Not really because you don't know which ones are participating.

I wouldn't worry too much about recs for informal, as Titchou says above. The timeframe is much longer, chapters don't have to make immediate cuts, and there are far fewer women participating. If your rec would just be some random alumna looking at your resume and writing something impersonal, that's pretty much the equivalent of you meeting the chapter adviser at some point, which the chapter can obviously arrange if necessary.

What Titchou and DeltaBetaBaby said. Informal recruitment is much more ... well, informal. Put your best foot forward and don't stress about recs.
It's also worth noting here that some NPC sororities allow active sisters to write recs, as long as the active isn't at the same chapter where the PNM will be rushing.

Express interest (in a non-stalkery way) to any sorority women you know. Present yourself well every day on campus. Behave as though someone is watching you. Be enthusiastic.

Are you talking about this one? It doesn't seem to be what you're talking about, even though it's the only one sticky on recruitment I could find.

No, this:
http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=54403
And don't just be all "I have to meet sorority women." Meet women and men. On campus. Period. Be outgoing. They don't keep all the sorority women in a geodome and if it becomes clear that you are only associating with someone in hopes of obtaining something for yourself, the chances of your getting that thing decrease exponentially.

thanks, 33. typing one handed, thought that a general referral to stickies in the recruitment forum would suffice.
