University of Arizona recruitment
Anyone have numbers for U of A recruitment? I wrote 3 recs this year. All I know so far is that it is really HOT (duh!) and that parties start crazy early in the morning. I think that parties began this morning at 7:30 or 8:00 A.M. !Anyone know how many registered for recruitment?

There were almost 1400 PNMs registered. I expect that number to drop significantly after today (Open Houses finished yesterday and first invitational rounds are today). It is crazy hot. It's August, in Arizona!

My daughter was cut this morning by the two remaining sororities
she was interested in. She had great conversations with these houses and
it sounded like they wanted her, but the issue was
her GPA was just under 3.0 unfortunately. She is a Legacy in
one if them as well. She knew going in that she could get
Cut, but was still hoping for the best. Question: Do any of the houses
hold Spring informal recruitment if their number of girls in the house
drops by chance?

Right now Chapter total is set at 220. All the chapters will be at or over total after Formal Recruitment ends. There *may* be one exception.
Bottom line: I would be surprised if there was any COB or Spring Recruitment this year.
Did your daughter receive any invites? All the chapters at Arizona are AMAZING. Encourage her to attend, if she still has invites. If not - bring up her GPA and try again as a sophomore!

I am sorry your daughter was cut Mum. She might want to explore the Alpha Chi Omega colonization : https://www.facebook.com/AXObetalambda

She will definitely apply again as a sophomore. She had 3 invites all from houses she didn't fit in to. She had already given them another look yesterday and if you don't feel it you don't feel it. She's pretty sad. Thanks for the info.

If she hasn't already dropped, you might encourage her to continue with recruitment. There is no penalty to do so, and she doesn't have to sign her binding agreement if she isn't "feeling it" after preference. She has probably met only a tiny fraction of members in the remaining chapters on her list. With total at 220, there isn't a chance she could enjoy her time in any of the remaining chapters? That is approximately 660 girls she is turning her back on. I'm not saying she should sign a bid card if her heart isn't in it, but maybe she just hasn't talked to the "right" girls in those chapters.

She really needs to pull up that GPA. She knew going into recruitment that her GPA was a liability. This isn't harsh, it's a reality: the chapters at UofA are all focusing on strong academics. I know that Greek Life did its level best to discourage PNMs who were below a high school 3.0 GPA.
Re the bolding: I honestly don't know how she could decide or "feel it" after two rounds... GC is full of threads about PNMs who stuck it out and found a great home.

Thank you everyone. She will definitely have to bring that GPA up.

My sister went through recruitment as a sophomore (at a Big 10 school), with a 2.95 from freshman year. She was cut by Gamma Phi, which had a 3.0 firm minimum. That was really heartbreaking, but she kept with recruitment and found her home in a great group. She served as chapter advisor for 3 years while she was in med school.
Grade risks can turn things around, and they can find their home. Personally, I'd stick with recruitment and follow irishpipe's advice if I was your daughter. If she decides she likes any of these chapters after Pref., great, sign the card. If not, she's just waiting the year she'd be waiting if she drops now.

At competitive recruitment schools, like Arizona, a PNM's freshman year is the best opportunity to be Greek. Informal Recruitment or re-rushing as a Sophomore really is a game of diminishing returns. The campus chapters that take Sophomores and do Spring informal recruitment are likely the very ones that are still expressing an interest in her.

Have her check out Alpha Chi Omega. They will be colonizing in a week and she would have met the Chapter from ASU during round 1. There will be a lot of opportunity for girls like your daughter.
PM me if you want more information.

slight swerve: there's a ginormous thunderstorm that started about 3:15 our time, with thunder, lightning, wind, and pouring rain. Oh, I'm worried for those PNMs... hope it skips the University area.

Three invites to chapters that are very large.
She's met, what? A handful of sister in each chapter? .....how on earth can she know at this point whether she "fits" or not?
