New to it all

Hello everyone,

I found this site to help inform my daughter and myself about sorority life. She will be a freshman this fall and has registered for sorority recruitment for this fall as well. I was never in a sorority so this is all new territory for the both of us. I'm hoping to use this site to help us from making mistakes that could have been avoided if we had only known to ask. Thanks for your help and encouragement.

Mrs.P

I would recommend, if you have not already, to start by reading every "sticky" topic in the Sorority Recruitment subforum.

There is a ton of information there that will be helpful to you and your daughter.

Good luck!

Welcome Mrs. Pineapple. Hopefully, you and daughter will come away from this site with enough information that both of you feel comfortable about the process.

As one of the dinosaurs on this site, I want to thank you:

1) No identifying information regarding your daughter
2) No identifying information regarding the school your daughter will attend
3) No identifying information regarding the Greek system at your daughter's school so no one can over ride #1 and #2 by process of elimination.

Would love to hear the results of your daughter's journey at the conclusion.

I am a mother whose daughter did not go through recruitment at her school, so I can't give you a fair assessment of keeping calm but I can recommend you be a shoulder should she need one during recruitment. Check out local Panhellenic events so that you can talk face to face with those who have experience. You may meet women who knew about recruitment specifically at your daughter's school who can answer those questions specific to that school.

TELL YOU DAUGHTER TO BE HERSELF AND HAVE A FUN TIME!

If your daughter is going to a high octane, super turbo recruitment school, you will find a wealth of information here. If her school is more laid back ( smaller, regional, registration closes an hour before Meet the Greeks) you'll still learn so much about the process from reading the various threads. I think the more PNMs know about how the process works, the better prepared they are to deal with the stress and emotions that arise. Also, I think this group makes it apparent that all NPC organizations have amazing sisterhood opportunities that last far beyond the college years. Best wishes to you and your daughter

ETA: I'm sure there are plenty of small, regional schools that are super competitive. I was just mentally contrasting recruitment at my sleepy little alma mater to say, Alabama, where the pledge class is bigger than our campus total!

Thank you all for the welcome. We are reading up as much as possible. It's an exciting time for sure, but also looking to balance it all. Recruitment week for her school is also during move in week. I'm looking forward to being a part of this community for years to come.
