joining a fraternity after air force..?

Hello, my name is devin, im 18 and ive decided to go into the air force after graduation. Reason being, because i cant afford a top school yet and going into the milatary seems like the best choice. Ill have the oppurtunity to growup as a person, have my college paid for once 4 years is up and reslly just have my whole life together by the time im 30. With that being said, i plan on going to LSU because its just always been my dream school, is it wierd for a 22-23 year old to rush? I now they make some exceptions especially for military personal, but im just wanting a little insight. Thanks

Devin: You sound like a smart young man. It has been a while since I was in college (now an SEC school), but I do remember meeting some guys in fraternities who were prior military. They were usually in the more laid-back houses who were less caught up in status issues such as what high school a PNM attended, parents' income, etc. I recall there was a guy who who had been an Army Ranger in one house who was particularly drool-worthy, LOL.
I think some fraternities will look on your time in the military as a bonus, as it means you know how to prioritize your time and show some responsibility. Just be ready to deal with the fact that some of your brothers will be four years younger than you and trying to figure out stuff you dealt with at that age.
My advice: Do not make this a top priority, but see if it fits into everything else (particularly making good grades) once you start college. Also, you mentioned GI Bill, but be sure to take advantage of the other assistance you can get with college as a veteran.
BTW: Veteran here (though went into the military after college).

My 2 cents.... college and joining a fraternity are a LONG way off if you enter the military now. You will be a completely different person at that point in your life. The decisions you will make in 4 years are probably going to be very different than you would make now. Don't even think about a fraternity right now. You have a life changing road ahead of you. See where it takes you and enjoy the ride.

There are a lot of Greeks involved in ROTC who go on to serve in the military, and there are several military veterans who return to school and join fraternities/sororities. It depends on your school and whether you're a fit with a chapter there. Worry about it when the time comes.
