I did a speaking engagement at IU last school year.
You're absolutely right. The Greek system there is remarkable. And the houses are amazing.

A few of my buddies have gone for the last three years and have a blast. I don't know that they've ever been to a race though One of my best friends from HS is riding for one of the dorm teams.

Ohhhhh, man, is it worth it!!! The answer is a definite YES!!!
Here's a little tip: Little 500 has been consistently rated the WORLD'S GREATEST COLLEGE PARTY WEEKEND! It is so much fun, you won't know what to do with yourself!
If you can make it over the IU this weekend, you should GO!

what university do you attend (for sake of curiousity)
it was the shit at the little 5
2 huge wrecks
and phi delts won
but didn't do a damn thing to celebrate
sigma chi did really crappy
and didn't do a damn thing that night either
and were not very well-receiving - i was disappointed to be honest.
The Delts rather took us in and showed us a good time
but we sold tickets to an APES party for 30 bucks a ticket which kind-of paid for our trip, we spent the weekend drunk, but not biligerantly so, and all in all had a good time

pass that old silver goblet with the Phi Mu upon it and we'll all have another round of *cheer* cuz it's not for knowledge that we came to college but to have fun while we're here!

SigmaChiCard,
Glad the Delt brothers could help you out. They're a good group at IU.

I'm know I'm a little biased on this, but if you all thought little five was a good time, you should head about two hours north of IU and hit Purdue for Grand Prix...it's a real race, and we party a lot harder.
I mean, honestly, little five and Grand Prix are both rip offs of the Indy 500, but at IU it's a damn bike race. Up here at Purdue we actually race cars...just like the real Indy 500.
And on top of that, I personally think that our greek system is better than theirs too. For one thing, it's definitly bigger.

TKEAZ it was rather immature to come on this board and bash the Indiana University greek system. I would never go on a board and bash Purdue's.
As for the Grand Prix being better then the Little 500 because you race in real cars...um, last time I heard, the Grand Prix involved go carts. True the Little 500 is only a bike race (which actually involves a lot of physical conditioning and training), but there's more to Little 500 week then the race. There are parties, barbecues, IUSF events (the mini-trike race and olympics)...there's so much to do that week. The race is only the culmination of the entire week.
Also, Little 500 is so awesome that it has been covered by Mtv and there has been an Academy Award winning film (Breaking Away...a must see) based on it. Not too shabby for a bicycle race.
And you should not argue which school has better greek life. Both schools have a wonderful greek system. Though Purdue has more fraternities (around 40 I think) for the most part they are smaller then the 28 fraternities at IU (which average a size of about 80-90 members). And we have 19 large sororities with incredible girls!
Oh yeah, and if you go to IU, start getting your house psyched up for Greek Week next fall, a lot of people are working hard to make it a successful event!
