Spring Rush at FSU

Hello,

I was interested in doing spring rush at FSU and was interested if anyone had more information on how the whole process goes like how long it lasts, what it entails, when do you find out if you receive a bid, etc. Any and all advice is helpful!

Note: I have read through other greekchat posts and looked up the Office of Greek Life for FSU and still have these questions.

Have you signed up for spring rush...or are you able to yet?

In recent years FSU Greek Life has had an organized kick off event during the first part of the spring semester, where Panhellenic explains the process and you get to meet the sororities-sometimes all the sororities on campus, whether they have openings or not, and sometimes just the sororities that do have openings. The sororities that are holding spring rush will each get a list of girls who are interested in attending parties, and they will contact the girls. I do want to warn you that some sororities may have only a few spaces available, and they may only invite girls/friends that are suggested by their members, but i would not let that stop me from signing up.

Have you secured recommendations? You will need them!!!!!!!!! If you don't have them, you need to work on getting them while you are home.

I did sign up for spring rush at the beginning of the week!!

I have a few friends in the sororitys I am interested in and they have told me that they are accepting quite a few girls (one is accepting 10!). I had done fall rush but got very sick and had to drop, so I have a general idea of the ones I liked. What kind of recommendations would you suggest? I only know one person who was Greek in college My mom asked around, but we are from a small town so there isn't a great variety of people lol. Thank You!

From what I know about FSU rush from friends who are in sororities there, this would not be a very smart way to look at things. You will need a very open mind and also recommendations to all the chapters that are participating, not just the ones you think you like.

You need to find alumnae (sorority members who have graduated, or who have left college and have been granted alumna status by their national office) who are members. They can only write a recommendation for the sorority they are a member of, but they can write a rec. to any chapter of their sorority, so a ZTA who attended college at UGA could write a rec. to the ZTA chapter at FSU. The alumnae will know the type of form they need to fill out and will have access to it. You should get a good, current resume together, with a flattering head shot photo of yourself to provide to the alumnae.

I was from a small town and I managed to get recs. to almost all the sororities at FSU back in the day.....and there were more sororities then! Ask your former teachers: pre-school, elementary, middle school and high school. Don't forget the librarians! If you go to church/synagogue, ask the ladies there. Even if they are not sorority members, they may have family members who are. Have your parents ask their co-workers/friends. Ask your friend's parents. Ask your neighbors. Ask your relatives. Ask your friends who joined sororities if their sororities allow collegiate members to write recs. Some of the sororities do allow this. If their sororities don't, tell them that you are trying to find a rec. and need some help. Maybe they could ask their chapter advisors and they could locate an alumna member that lives near you.

As Old Row has heard, you really do need recommendations at FSU. Even during spring recruitment. And I do hope that you will try to keep an open mind and will visit all the chapters that extend an invitation to you-even ones that might not have stood out during fall recruitment. In the relaxed setting of spring recruitment they may shine! Good luck!
